The Vice President / Senior Director of BTM Solutions and Private Grids is a senior leadership role within the Energy Resources Business Unit, reporting to executive leadership. You will own the strategy, growth, delivery quality, and P&L performance of EPE’s BTM generation and Private Grid service line, serving hyperscale and AI data center developers, IPPs, C&I customers, and infrastructure investors. You will recruit, lead, and mentor a multidisciplinary team of principal and senior engineers spanning BTM gas generation, Private Grid architecture and controls, fuel and mechanical systems, gas plant balance-of-plant, and EMS/load orchestration. How you can make an impact:

 

Practice Strategy and Growth

  • Define and execute the strategy, service offerings, delivery model, and multiyear growth plan for EPE’s BTM Solutions and Private Grids practice.
  • Establish the practice’s market positioning across Engineering and strategic advisory roles for BTM generation and Private Grids.
  • Translate market trends such as AI data center load growth, interconnection queue congestion, turbine and engine supply constraints, evolving air permitting and grid code requirements into actionable service offerings and long-term growth plays.
  • Integrate the practice with EPE’s adjacent capabilities to deliver differentiated end-to-end solutions.

 

Technical Leadership and Delivery Excellence

  • Serve as EPE’s senior-most subject matter expert for BTM gas generation (reciprocating engines, gas turbines, combined cycle, CHP/CCHP), Private Grid architectures, BESS integration, and mission-critical power systems for data center campuses exceeding 100 MW of critical load.
  • Set the technical vision, engineering standards, design guidelines, control philosophies, and quality assurance framework for the practice.
  • Provide executive-level technical oversight of feasibility studies, generation strategy and technology selection, FEED and detailed design reviews, due diligence, and commissioning oversight across the portfolio.
  • Ensure delivery quality, schedule performance, and client satisfaction on the practice’s most complex and highest-value projects.
  • Guide the responsible adoption of AI, automation, and engineering tools to improve quality, productivity, and innovation across the practice.

Team Leadership and Talent Development

  • Recruit, build, lead, and retain a high-performing team of engineers across generation, controls, mechanical, and electrical disciplines.
  • Set clear goals, manage utilization and staffing across engagements, and ensure the team is empowered, developed, and accountable.
  • Foster a culture of technical excellence, mentorship, client service, and cross-disciplinary collaboration.
  • Develop succession depth by growing the next generation of practice leaders and subject matter experts.

Commercial Leadership and Client Relationships

  • Own the practice P&L, including sales, revenue, utilization, and margin performance.
  • Cultivate executive-level relationships with hyperscalers, data center developers, IPPs, EPCs, OEMs, and infrastructure investors, opening doors and shaping opportunities
  • Partner with the commercial team on pursuit strategy, win themes, pricing, proposals, and scopes of work for BTM and Private Grid engagements.
  • Lead contract scoping, risk review, and margin discipline for complex, multiphase engagements.
  • Represent EPE as a thought leader through conference participation, publications, industry task forces and working groups, and standards bodies.

 

Qualifications

Bring your passion, here's what’s needed:

 

The successful candidate is a rare blend of technical authority and commercial builder: an engineering executive who has led the development or delivery of large on-site generation and Private Grid projects, has the credibility to advise client executives on power decisions, and has the entrepreneurial drive to build a practice.

  • Bachelor’s degree in electrical or mechanical engineering or a related discipline required; advanced degree (MS, MBA, or PhD) preferred.
  • 15+ years of experience in power generation, mission-critical facilities, or large industrial energy systems, including significant leadership experience;
  • Demonstrated experience leading engineering, development, or delivery of gas generation facilities of 100 MW or larger; experience with BTM or islanded configurations serving critical loads strongly preferred.
  • Deep knowledge of natural gas reciprocating engines and gas turbine power plants, CHP/CCHP, BESS, Private Grid architectures and controls (EMS/PPC), medium- and high-voltage electrical systems, and utility interconnections.
  • Experience supporting hyperscale or AI data center developments, including campuses exceeding 100 MW of critical load, strongly preferred.
  • Proven track record building or scaling an engineering practice, service line, or business unit, with P&L or sales accountability.
  • Experience serving as an Owner’s Engineer, Independent Engineer, EPC engineering executive, developer engineering leader, or senior consulting advisor; client-facing advisory experience strongly preferred.
  • Established network among data center developers, IPPs, EPCs, generation OEMs (e.g., Rolls-Royce mtu, Wärtsilä, Caterpillar, GE Vernova, Siemens Energy, Solar Turbines), and infrastructure investors.
  • Knowledge of IEEE, IEC, NFPA standards and applicable utility and environmental regulations, including air permitting considerations for gas generation, is preferred.
  • Outstanding written and verbal communication, and the judgment to operate independently in a senior market-facing role.
  • Professional Engineer (P.E. or P.Eng.) license strongly preferred.
  • Active participation in industry organizations, task forces, and/or working groups (IEEE, ESIG, or similar) is a plus.
  • Experience leveraging AI and automation tools responsibly to improve quality, productivity and innovation

 

Success Measures

  • Sales, revenue, and margin growth of the BTM Solutions and Private Grids practice against the multi year plan.
  • Successful recruitment and retention of the practice’s engineering team.
  • Delivery quality, client satisfaction, and repeat business on flagship engagements.
  • Establishment of EPE as a recognized leader in BTM generation and Private Grids for AI and hyperscale data centers.
  • Cross-functional alignment with sales, corporate development, technical practices, finance, and executive leadership.
