UI Engineer

Product & Design · 100% Remote

We're looking for a design-focused front-end developer who cares about the people using our product – someone who knows what makes an interface clear, intuitive and enjoyable to use, and has the experience to build it.

About Finfo

We build Finfo 360, a reporting and analytics platform. It pulls finance, operations, ESG and service data from different sources and turns it into reports, dashboards and summaries people can act on.

We're a small, fully remote team with bases in Berlin and Huddersfield. Our customers include the NHS, L'Oréal, the Ministry of Justice and McCarthy Stone.

The Role

You won't be handed finished designs to copy. You'll work with our Product & Design Lead to work out what an interface should be, then build it properly in Finfo 360.

Some of the work is refining what's already there. Some is new features. Some is trying ideas to see whether they hold up.

What You'll Be Doing

  • Building Interfaces: Designing and building new product interfaces and reusable components, and improving existing workflows and interaction patterns.

  • Dashboards & Data Visualisation: Building dashboards, reports and charts. Our reporting system is largely config-driven: configuration decides the data, layout and components in each report.

  • Prototyping: Trying several approaches before we commit to one, including AI-assisted features. Some of what you build won't ship. That's expected.

Who You Are

  • You have taste: You know what good layout, hierarchy, typography and interaction states look like, and you notice when they're off.

  • Your interaction design is understated: You know when a transition, a hover state or a moment of feedback makes an interface better, and when it's just noise. You add detail where it earns its place and leave it out where it doesn't.

  • You think in systems: You build reusable patterns, not one-off screens, and you design for every screen size.

  • You can handle complexity: You can present dense information without the interface feeling complicated. Experience with dashboards or data-heavy products helps.

  • You iterate: Not everything starts with a spec. You can turn a loosely defined problem into something concrete, prototype quickly and take feedback without getting attached to your first solution.

This role isn't a good fit if you want to implement finished Figma files exactly, work mainly on the backend, design without touching production code, or wait for complete requirements before starting.

What You Need to Have

  • Core Tools: Semantic HTML, Tailwind CSS, CSS, JavaScript.

  • Polished Interfaces: You can turn a design into a clean, responsive, accessible interface built from reusable patterns rather than one-off styling.

  • How the Web Works: You have a practical understanding of how modern web interfaces behave in the browser, and you can confidently read and modify interactive UI.

Our Tech Stack

  • Our Stack: Livewire, Flux UI, Tailwind CSS, Chart.js and Blade, with Laravel on the backend. If your fundamentals are strong, we'll teach you the rest – including Git.

  • Nice to Have: Alpine.js, Filament, Figma, design systems, SaaS or enterprise products, AI-assisted tools and interfaces, rapid prototyping.

If you're strong on the fundamentals but don't tick every box, apply anyway. We care more about what you can do than whether your CV matches every keyword.

Who You'll Be Working With

You'll work day to day with our Product & Design Lead and the development team.

Developers handle application architecture, backend logic and the more complex Livewire behaviour. You'll own more and more of the interface layer: structure, components, interaction, styling and frontend quality.

You'll take part in our normal development workflow, peer review included: developers will review your code, and you'll review the frontend work they produce. You'll start with smaller changes while you learn the codebase, then take on bigger pieces.

We work in six-week cycles, with time set aside for research, development and individual projects.

Why Join Us

  • Ownership: In a small team, your work goes straight into the product. Over time we want this person to own Finfo's frontend – the component system, interface standards and larger product-wide improvements. The role will shape itself around the strengths of whoever we hire.

  • Work-Life Balance: We take it seriously. The working environment is calm and respectful.

What We'll Look For

Your portfolio matters more than formal qualifications. We'll look at:

  • Interface Quality: Whether the interfaces you've designed or built are clear and enjoyable to use, how they hold up across screen sizes, and your attention to detail.

  • Interaction Detail: How you use motion, states and feedback, and how you show restraint with them.

  • Clean Frontend Code: Semantic HTML, how you structure Tailwind, and how you approach reusable components.

  • Accessibility: How you design and build for accessibility (WCAG). This matters to us – we need to meet WCAG standards for government work.

  • Your Reasoning: Whether you can explain your design decisions, and turn an unclear problem into something tangible.

  • Collaboration: Evidence that you've worked with developers or in a shared codebase.

Show us how you worked through a problem, not just the finished result.

Benefits

  • 30 days' holiday plus UK bank holidays.

  • Company pension scheme

  • Cycle to work scheme (UK)

  • EV salary sacrifice schemes (UK)

  • Funded co-working space near your home

  • Quality equipment and a supportive, fully remote setup

The Logistics

  • Salary: £35k – £45k (Depending on experience)

  • Location: 100% Remote

  • Target Start Date: TBC
