The role involves building and maintaining Python-based automation tools, test frameworks, and CI/CD pipelines to improve software quality. You will collaborate with cross-functional teams to streamline workflows, investigate test failures, and mentor junior team members.

Role Summary

The Test Automation & Tools Developer builds and maintains automation tools, test frameworks, CI/CD pipelines, and internal solutions that improve software quality and make QA workflows more efficient.

In this role, you will work closely with QA, Engineering, DevOps, and other internal teams to understand needs, automate testing and reporting activities, investigate failures, and support reliable software releases across multiple development and test environments.

You will also help streamline repetitive work across the organization by creating practical tools that give teams clearer data, faster feedback, and more time to focus on higher-value technical work.

Main Responsibilities

·        Build and maintain Python automation tools and test frameworks that help QA and Engineering execute functional, regression, and performance testing efficiently.

·        Partner with QA, Engineering, DevOps, and internal teams to clarify requirements and deliver reliable, maintainable automation solutions.

·        Turn repetitive or time-consuming workflows into practical tools that improve accuracy, reduce manual effort, and support higher-value work.

·        Design, maintain, and troubleshoot Jenkins CI/CD pipelines and jobs using Groovy, Python, and supporting scripts.

·        Monitor automated test runs, investigate failures, support root-cause analysis, and communicate results, risks, and follow-up actions.

·        Validate software fixes and enhancements through targeted testing, regression testing, and review of expected versus actual results.

·        Summarize test, automation, and development data in clear, actionable formats for QA, Engineering, and leadership audiences.

·        Represent QA during enterprise tool changes by identifying test impacts, raising concerns early, and coordinating on upgrades, configuration changes, and tool updates.

·        Improve automation coverage, test reliability, execution time, and workflow consistency through practical process and tooling improvements.

·        Provide technical guidance through code reviews, debugging support, design discussions, and knowledge sharing with QA team members and Co-op students.

·        Lead and mentor Tools Developer Co-op students by helping plan work, review progress, and support day-to-day technical growth.

·        Support hiring for Co-op and development roles through interview participation and technical input.

·        Provide regular status updates on Tools team progress, priorities, risks, schedules, stakeholder coordination, and initiatives under your oversight.

Must-Have Skills & Experience

·        3–4 years of professional Python development experience, with the ability to build maintainable tools, scripts, or automation frameworks.

·        2–3 years of hands-on experience developing, maintaining, and troubleshooting Jenkins or similar CI/CD pipelines.

·        Bachelor’s degree or equivalent diploma in Computer Science, Computer Engineering, Software Engineering, or a related field is preferred. Equivalent professional experience may be considered.

·        Experience creating software tools, automation frameworks, or scripts that improve QA, Engineering, or test-execution workflows.

·        Practical source-control experience, including pull requests, branching, tagging, and troubleshooting commit or branch issues.

·        Strong debugging skills across software, automation, test environments, and CI/CD pipeline failures.

·        Strong analytical and problem-solving skills, including root-cause analysis and validation of effective corrective actions.

·        Clear written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to explain technical information to both technical and non-technical audiences.

·        Ability to work independently, manage competing priorities, and deliver reliable solutions in a collaborative team environment.

Nice to Have

·        Experience with automated functional, regression, or performance testing in QA or Engineering environments.

·        Experience with GitHub, GitLab, or similar source-control platforms.

·        Experience with JIRA or similar defect-tracking and project-management tools.

·        Working knowledge of Linux-based development or test environments.

·        Experience with Docker, virtualization, or containerized test environments.

·        Experience with GUI development libraries such as Tkinter, Qt, or similar frameworks.

·        Experience onboarding, mentoring, or supporting Co-op students, junior developers, or other technical team members.
