Job Title: Remote Tax Associate (U.S. Personal Tax)
Job Type: Independent Contractor | Part-Time (20 hours per week, with potential to transition to Full-Time)
About the Role:
A detail-oriented and experienced Tax Associate is needed to support a U.S.-based accounting firm with personal tax return preparation and tax-related processes. This role focuses primarily on handling U.S. individual tax returns, supporting multiple clients, and improving efficiency across tax workflows.
The ideal candidate has hands-on experience working with U.S. personal tax returns, understands tax processes, and is comfortable navigating different tax software platforms. This role also involves contributing to process improvements and helping streamline tax operations within the firm.
This is an excellent opportunity for someone who is looking to grow into a long-term role, with the potential to transition into a full-time position shortly after onboarding based on performance and business needs.
Key Responsibilities:
Tax Preparation & Data Entry
- Prepare and assist with U.S. personal tax returns (individual returns)
- Perform accurate data entry of tax documents and financial information
- Organize and review client-provided tax documentation
- Ensure completeness and accuracy of tax return inputs before review
Tax Process Support & Optimization
- Assist in streamlining tax preparation workflows and internal processes
- Identify inefficiencies and suggest improvements within the tax process
- Support the firm in organizing and optimizing tax-related systems
- Contribute to building more efficient and scalable tax operations
Client & Multi-State Tax Support
- Support tax preparation across multiple clients
- Assist with multi-state tax returns (experience with California and New York is a plus)
- Handle allocations and requirements related to multi-state filings when applicable
- Work closely with the internal team to ensure timely and accurate deliverables
Systems & Software Utilization
- Utilize tax software platforms such as ProSeries, Lacerte, or CCH Axcess
- Work within practice management systems like TaxDome
- Adapt quickly to new tools and systems as needed
- Maintain organized records and documentation within tax systems
Qualifications & Ideal Traits:
- Proven experience working on U.S. personal tax returns (required)
- Familiarity with tax software such as ProSeries (preferred), Lacerte, or CCH Axcess
- Experience using TaxDome or similar practice management tools is a plus
- Understanding of multi-state tax filings (California and New York experience preferred)
- Strong attention to detail and accuracy in handling financial data
- Ability to manage multiple clients and deadlines simultaneously
- Process-oriented mindset with interest in improving workflows
- Strong written English communication skills
- Comfortable working in a remote and structured environment
- Trainable and adaptable, especially for firm-specific processes and state-specific tax nuances
Working Environment:
