Position Overview:


The Sustaining Engineer is responsible for improving the reliability, maintainability, and serviceability of LG Energy Solution Vertech's deployed Battery Energy Storage System (BESS) fleet. This role serves as the bridge between field operations and engineering, transforming operational experience, fleet issues, and lessons learned into sustainable improvements across products, processes, documentation, and maintenance programs. Working within the Service Engineering organization, the Sustaining Engineer develops and maintains the technical infrastructure required to support long-term service obligations, including preventative maintenance programs, service procedures, troubleshooting resources, service tooling, engineering change implementation, reliability initiatives, and lifecycle support strategies. The role works closely with Field Service, Sustaining Engineering, Product Management, Quality, Supply Chain, Operations, Training, and Product Engineering teams to ensure deployed products remain serviceable, supportable, and continuously improving throughout their operational life.


Responsibilities:


Documentation & Service Readiness

  • Develop and maintain service SOPs, work instructions, troubleshooting guides, service bulletins, maintenance procedures, and other technical documentation.
  • Establish and improve standardized service processes, best practices, and field execution standards.

Preventative Maintenance & Lifecycle Support

  • Develop and maintain preventative maintenance programs, maintenance strategies, tooling requirements, and service deliverables supporting long-term service agreements.
  • Support lifecycle planning activities including product updates, obsolescence management, upgrade strategies, and legacy product sustainment.

Sustaining Engineering & Reliability Improvement

  • Identify recurring fleet issues, support root cause investigations, and drive corrective actions that improve reliability, maintainability, and serviceability.
  • Translate field lessons learned into durable improvements across products, procedures, documentation, and support processes.

Design for Serviceability

  • Partner with Product, Engineering, Quality, and Field Service teams to improve maintainability, diagnostics, field repairability, and long-term supportability of deployed products.
  • Support service readiness activities for new products, engineering changes, and major product revisions.

Technical Support & Continuous Improvement

  • Provide technical support for complex field issues and escalations as needed.
  • Develop and maintain service tools, technical resources, and knowledge-management assets that improve field effectiveness and reduce future support burden.


 

Key Skills & Qualifications:


Required Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Engineering Technology, or equivalent technical experience.
  • 3-8 years of experience supporting industrial equipment, energy systems, electrical infrastructure, automation systems, or similar technical products.
  • Experience developing technical procedures, maintenance documentation, engineering specifications, or operational work instructions.
  • Strong troubleshooting and analytical problem-solving capabilities.
  • Ability to translate complex technical concepts into clear and executable documentation.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills.
  • Ability to work effectively across engineering, operations, field service, quality, and product organizations.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office applications.

 

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience supporting Battery Energy Storage Systems (BESS), power conversion equipment, renewable energy systems, industrial controls, or utility infrastructure.
  • Experience with preventative maintenance program development.
  • Experience participating in root cause analysis investigations and corrective action programs.
  • Familiarity with reliability engineering principles, FMEA, Lean, Six Sigma, or structured problem-solving methodologies.
  • Knowledge of communications protocols such as Modbus, CAN, TCP/IP, DNP3, or similar industrial networking technologies.
  • Familiarity with SCADA systems, industrial controls, Linux-based systems, or operational technology environments.
  • Understanding of utility-scale generation, transmission, and distribution systems.
  • Experience supporting lifecycle service agreements or field-deployed industrial equipment fleets.


Travel & Work Environment:

  • Expected travel of approximately 10–20%.
  • Occasional travel to customer sites, service centers, engineering facilities, and corporate offices.
  • Remote-eligible position with periodic travel required for field exposure, relationship building, and technical development.
