Staff Engineer, AI & Platform Engineering

About this Role:

We are looking for a Staff Engineer with deep technical experience and a track record of leading complex engineering initiatives. At Science Exchange, you will help architect and scale a platform that accelerates scientific research. We are seeking an engineer who can operate at a high technical level while also raising the bar for the rest of the team, including our adoption of AI assisted development practices. Our platform is built using a combination of Salesforce and AWS, and this role will play a key part in shaping how both are used going forward.

About You:

The ideal candidate is a seasoned engineer who thinks in systems, not just tickets. You have led architectural decisions, mentored other engineers, and are comfortable being the person a team turns to when a hard problem needs solving. You have hands-on experience using AI tools in your own engineering workflow, whether that is AI-assisted coding, code review, testing, or documentation, and you are excited to teach those practices to others. You communicate clearly with both technical and non-technical partners, and you take ownership of outcomes, not just output.

Responsibilities:

• Lead the full development lifecycle from technical design through development, testing, and deployment, ensuring alignment with long term architectural goals

• Translate designs and prototypes into robust, scalable code, using both out-of-the-box platform features and custom development where needed

• Champion the adoption of AI-assisted engineering practices across the team, including evaluating tools, establishing best practices, and running internal training sessions

• Break down complex, ambiguous work into clear, estimable pieces and lead team-level estimation

• Identify and resolve difficult bugs and performance issues, and provide guidance on debugging, optimization, and security

• Provide thoughtful, constructive feedback in code reviews to raise the quality bar across the codebase

• Communicate technical concepts, tradeoffs, and recommendations clearly across engineering, product, and business partners

Qualifications & Requirements:

• 8 or more years of professional experience building and scaling web applications, with demonstrated experience operating at a Staff or senior technical leadership level

• B.S. in Computer Science or equivalent experience

• Strong, hands-on experience with AI-assisted development tools and workflows, and demonstrated ability to train or mentor other engineers on their use

• Deep expertise with React, TypeScript, and Node.js

• Strong experience with AWS services such as Lambda, DynamoDB, and API Gateway; experience with infrastructure as code tools such as AWS CDK, SST, or Pulumi is a plus

• Experience with Salesforce development, including Apex, SOQL, and the LWC framework, is a plus

• Demonstrated ability to lead technical design discussions and drive architectural decisions across a team

• Proven track record mentoring engineers and improving team-level engineering practices and processes

• Strong understanding of object-oriented design, agile development, and remote collaboration tools such as Jira, Confluence, and GitHub

• Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to work effectively across multiple time zones

• Detail-oriented, with the ability to manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced environment

Compensation:

The US-based salary range for this full-time position is $200,000 to $220,000. Our salary ranges are determined by role and seniority level. Within the range, individual pay is determined by additional factors including job-related skills, experience, and relevant education and/or training. We also offer incentive compensation and health, dental, and vision benefits for all US-based roles.
