The Solutions Engineer - Mid supports SEC Office of Information Technology (OIT) objectives under the ISS contract by identifying and engineering technology solutions that meet enterprise requirements. This role translates functional business needs into technical architecture and engineering requirements for secure, scalable implementation. The engineer validates candidate technologies through proof-of-concept, pilot, and demo activities and produces quantitative analyses of alternatives to support decision-making. The role delivers clear technical documentation and recommendation papers aligned to SEC operational, governance, and compliance expectations.
PRIMARY RESPONSIBILITIES
Requirements Analysis and Solution Design
- Perform day-to-day solution engineering activities to identify technologies that satisfy SEC enterprise functional and technical requirements.
- Translate business and mission requirements into technical architecture, design, and implementation requirements.
- Define measurable evaluation criteria for security, performance, scalability, interoperability, and supportability.
- Ensure recommended solutions align with ISS service delivery goals and SEC/OIT modernization priorities.
Proof of Concept, Pilot, and Demo Execution
- Plan and execute proof-of-concept efforts, pilots, and demonstrations to validate technology suitability.
- Develop test scenarios, success metrics, and data collection methods to evaluate outcomes objectively.
- Document results, risks, dependencies, and implementation considerations from each evaluation cycle.
- Present findings to stakeholders and refine approaches based on technical and operational feedback.
Analysis of Alternatives and Recommendations
- Conduct quantitative, criteria-based analysis of alternatives for competing technology options.
- Evaluate tradeoffs across cost, risk, cybersecurity/compliance alignment, and lifecycle operations impact.
- Produce written recommendation papers that document alternatives considered, evaluation criteria, rationale, and decision path.
- Identify additional research, engineering tasks, or pilot work required prior to production adoption.
Documentation, Governance, and Stakeholder Collaboration
- Produce clear technical analyses, architecture artifacts, and supporting documentation for governance and audit readiness.
- Collaborate with operations, security, engineering, and program stakeholders to align proposed solutions with contract requirements.
- Support continuous improvement by incorporating lessons learned and operational data into solution recommendations.
- Maintain traceability of requirements, evaluations, and decisions in approved SEC processes and systems.
REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS
-This position is restricted to U.S. citizens only. Applicants must not hold dual citizenship with any other country to be eligible for work under this contract.
-Bachelor's degree in a relevant field (e.g., Information Technology, Computer Science, Engineering). In lieu of degree, additional experience may be required.
-Ability to obtain and maintain SEC Public Trust.
- 4+ years of experience in business solutions engineering support for enterprise IT environments.
- Demonstrated experience in architectural design, engineering design, proof of concept development, pilots, analysis, results, and documentation.
- Experience mapping functional requirements into technical requirements and producing recommendation/analysis documentation for stakeholder decisions.

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS
- Experience supporting federal civilian IT programs in regulated environments.
- Familiarity with FISMA, Zero Trust concepts, and audit-support documentation practices.
- Experience evaluating enterprise cloud and collaboration platforms in hybrid environments.
- Working knowledge of IT service management processes and tools (e.g., ServiceNow).
- Ability to brief technical and non-technical leadership with clear, data-driven recommendations.

- ITIL 4 Foundation
