Utilities Assessor - Electricity/Electrical Infrastructure

 

Location - UK (Home Based with Travel Across the UK)

About the Role

 

LRQA is looking for an experienced Utilities Assessor to join our growing Utilities & Infrastructure Assurance team.

 

This is an exciting opportunity for an electrical industry professional with experience in utility networks, infrastructure delivery, compliance, auditing, or technical assurance to play a key role in improving safety, quality and competence standards across the UK's electricity sector.

 

As a Utilities Assessor, you will conduct independent assessments and audits against a range of recognised industry schemes and standards, including:

 

· National Electricity Registration Scheme (NERS)

· Northern Powergrid Assessment Programmes

· Build Offsite Property Assurance Scheme (BOPAS)

· ISO 55001 Asset Management

· PAS 128 Underground Utility Detection

· Other utility and infrastructure sector assurance schemes

 

You will work closely with clients ranging from Independent Connection Providers (ICPs), utility contractors and network operators through to major infrastructure organisations, helping them demonstrate compliance, improve operational performance and minimise risk.

 

This role combines technical expertise, stakeholder engagement and professional judgement. You will regularly interact with senior client representatives, review complex

operational activities, assess competence and compliance arrangements, and provide clear recommendations that support continual improvement.

 

What You'll Be Doing

 

Assessment & Auditing

· Undertake remote and onsite assessments against utility sector standards, schemes and accreditation requirements.

· Evaluate management systems, operational processes, technical documentation and field activities.

· Assess compliance with industry regulations, client requirements and recognised best practice.

· Produce professional audit and assessment reports within agreed timescales.

· Present findings and recommendations to clients and key stakeholders.

· Identify opportunities for improvement while maintaining impartiality and independence.

 

Technical Assurance

· Review electrical safety management systems, policies, procedures and risk controls.

· Assess competence management frameworks and authorisation processes.

· Verify compliance across HV and LV utility operations.

· Evaluate project delivery arrangements, construction activities and asset management practices.

· Support assessments relating to NERS accreditation and related utility sector schemes.

 

Client Engagement

· Build trusted relationships with clients across the utilities sector.

· Act as a technical specialist and subject matter expert during assessments.

· Support quotation activities and provide input into assessment durations and resource requirements.

· Contribute to service improvements through customer feedback and industry insight.

 

Continuous Improvement

· Maintain up-to-date knowledge of utility industry legislation, standards and emerging technologies.

· Support knowledge sharing and technical development within the assessor community.

· Participate in continual professional development activities.

· Contribute to the evolution of LRQA's utilities assurance services.

 

 

 

 

What We're Looking For

We are interested in speaking with professionals who have built their careers within the electricity, power distribution, infrastructure or utility services sectors.

 

Essential Experience

· Significant experience within the electricity utility sector.

· Strong understanding of electrical network infrastructure, construction or maintenance activities.

· Experience conducting audits, inspections, assessments or compliance reviews.

· Knowledge of utility industry standards, regulations and governance frameworks.

· Experience engaging with operational teams, management and senior stakeholders.

· Ability to analyse technical information and make evidence-based decisions.

· Strong written and verbal communication skills.

· Full UK driving licence and willingness to travel.

 

Desirable Experience (advantageous not essential)

· National Electricity Registration Scheme (NERS)

· Independent Connection Provider (ICP) operations

· Distribution Network Operators (DNOs)

· High Voltage (HV) and Low Voltage (LV) electrical networks

· Electrical authorisation and competency management systems

· ISO 55001 Asset Management

· PAS 128 Underground Utility Detection

· CDM Regulations

· Utility infrastructure construction and commissioning

· SHEQ leadership and management systems

· Incident investigation and root cause analysis

· Electrical safety training delivery
