As a Senior Transmission Planning Consultant, you'll lead high-impact studies and consulting engagements for electric utilities, ISOs/RTOs, cooperatives, and other industry stakeholders. You'll oversee and execute advanced transmission planning studies, including transient stability, power flow, transfer capability, reliability, short-circuit, and economic dispatch analysis, to support client decision-making and regulatory compliance, serving as a trusted advisor who engages directly with clients to define objectives, design methodologies, and deliver actionable results. This is a senior, client-facing role that blends deep technical expertise with strong project leadership: the ideal candidate is a seasoned consultant who thrives on solving complex challenges, mentoring teams, and ensuring deliverables meet both technical and business objectives.

In this role, you will:

• Lead and manage transmission planning studies, including stability, power flow, reliability, short-circuit, and congestion management analyses.

• Serve as the primary client contact, driving project scope, methodologies, and deliverables.

• Provide technical oversight, quality assurance, and guidance to junior engineers and consultants.

• Prepare and present detailed technical reports documenting assumptions, methodologies, and results.

• Contribute to business development by supporting proposals, client meetings, and thought leadership.

• Collaborate with senior leadership to shape service offerings and enhance technical capabilities.

• Mentor and train less experienced staff, fostering knowledge transfer and professional development.

• Have experience with Aspen, EasyPower, PSLF, EMTP/ATP, PSCAD, or PROMOD.

• Have experience with harmonics analysis.

• Are comfortable working independently in a fully remote environment.

Experience and Skills to Qualify Include:

• B.S. in electrical engineering or a related field; M.S. with 12+ years, Ph.D. with 8+ years, or B.S. with 15+ years of relevant experience in transmission planning, operations, or consulting.

• In-depth knowledge of transmission system planning processes, methodologies, and industry practices.

• Experience with transient stability, short-circuit, voltage, production costing, TPL compliance, and generator interconnection analysis.

• Strong competency in PSS/E (required).

• Strong experience with Transmission Adequacy & Reliability Assessment (TARA), including reliability and contingency (N-1) analysis, flowgate analysis, and assessing import/export limits for resource adequacy.

• Familiarity with NERC, FERC, and ISO/RTO requirements and processes (for example, PJM, ERCOT, MISO, SPP, CAISO, WECC, SERC, NYISO, or ISO-NE).

• Proficiency in Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint).

The budgeted salary for this position is $160,000 – $220,000 + + annual bonus. Actual pay will be adjusted based on experience.

This role will be 100% remote with infrequent travel, likely 3–5 times per year.
