Unstructured is defining the standard for enterprise data transformation in the age of LLMs and generative AI. In just two years, we've raised over $65M from world-class investors, including Menlo Ventures, Bain Capital, Databricks, NVIDIA, Microsoft, and IBM.
Our open-source toolkit has been downloaded 83M+ times and is used by 90% of the Fortune 1000. We power production AI workflows across commercial and federal sectors — transforming PDFs, HTML, Word docs, images, emails, and more into AI-ready data pipelines that scale.
We're not just building tools; we're building the backbone of generative AI and the infrastructure that unlocks intelligence across industries.
The Role
Our Public Sector Engineering team is transitioning developmental AI technology into production contracts for defense and federal customers — and we need a Senior Technical Program Manager to make that transition run like clockwork. You’ll sit at the center of engineering, delivery, and the customer, translating mission requirements into engineering work, keeping programs on track, and making sure nothing falls through the cracks between what a customer needs and what gets shipped.
This is a hands-on role for someone who has done real program management in a government environment: you understand how defense programs run, you’re fluent enough in engineering to hold your own with the team, and you have the relationships and clearance to operate credibly with defense stakeholders from day one. You’ll directly support our delivery, renewals, and R&D-to-production transition goals.
Track tickets and manage program and project progression using agile or agile-adjacent methodologies across the public sector engineering team.
Own program milestones, deliverables, and timelines as developmental technology transitions to production contracts and an active customer base.
Form engineering use cases and translate customer success requirements — including Definition of Done — into clear, actionable work tickets.
Bridge communication between engineer and engineer, and between engineer and operator, so technical work stays aligned to mission needs.
Review and manage contracts, SLAs, and deliverables, and navigate government program management processes and methodologies.
Work closely with Delivery, Growth, Engineering, and Leadership to keep programs unblocked — rolling up your sleeves to help the team wherever there’s a gap.
Draw on established relationships with defense personnel to support delivery and renewals, whether Unstructured is the prime or a subcontractor.
Communicate fluently with both technical and non-technical stakeholders, tailoring the message to the audience.
3–5 years of program management or customer success experience in public sector environments.
Familiarity with tracking tickets and managing project/program progression via agile or agile-adjacent methodologies.
Experience forming engineering use cases and translating customer success requirements, including Definition of Done, into work tickets.
Established relationship with defense personnel, gained through prior military service or direct business engagement.
Active SECRET clearance and U.S. citizenship required.
Experience reviewing and managing contracts, SLAs, and deliverables.
Familiarity with machine learning, AI, or enterprise software integrations.
Excellent communication skills, with the ability to bridge technical and non-technical stakeholders.
Proven ability to manage complex, multi-stakeholder programs with competing priorities.
Willingness to travel up to 25%.
Experience with data infrastructure or ETL / data pipeline solutions.
End-to-end product development or software delivery experience.
Comfortable operating in a fast-paced startup environment with a high degree of autonomy.
Familiarity with project and program management tools.
General understanding of software development tools (GitHub/GitLab, Jira, Confluence, etc.).
Self-starter, intrinsically motivated to find a problem and see it through to resolution.
Low-ego collaborator who naturally connects people across teams and helps wherever there’s a gap.
Naturally curious, with a habit of continuous learning.
Resilient and resourceful navigating complex customer environments, whether Unstructured is the subcontractor or working alongside a partner as the prime.
Track record of transitioning developmental technology into a production contract and deploying it to a live customer base.
You'll be surrounded by smart, kind, low-ego people who genuinely enjoy building together. We invest in our team with company offsites, best-in-tech swag, and the tools you need to do your best work, wherever you're based.
We support you holistically, not just at work. From medical, dental, and vision coverage effective the 1st of the month following your start date, life and disability insurance, unlimited PTO, and flexible parental leave, to a 401(k) with company match, equity, a $500 work from home stipend, $70/month internet reimbursement, and team/company offsites throughout the year - we want you focused on building, growing, and staying energized for the long haul.
If you're excited about what we're building, we'd love to meet you.
