We are looking for an energetic and motivated Senior Systems Engineer at Cincinnati Children’s Hospital to join our Virtualization team.  This team manages an expansive environment consisting of 40 Clusters, 290 Hosts, and approximately 6,000 Virtual Servers, and serves as the backbone for a wide array of applications, including Epic, Mirth, Proton Therapy, PCI, Databases, and various web applications.

Your role is crucial in ensuring that Cincinnati Children’s Virtualization environments and associated technologies function seamlessly, providing the reliability and scalability needed to support the hospital's mission of improving children's health. Your work will directly contribute to the success of vital applications supporting all aspects of operations for the hospital.

REPRESENTATIVE RESPONSIBILITIES

Technical Support

  • Utilize/Create Automated workflows to reduce redundant tasks.

  • Provide technical support and problem resolution assistance for production and process issues.

  • Troubleshoot and decipher issues in the environment, identifying resources needed to resolve any issues.

  • Utilize appropriate Change Control methods to implement system solutions.

  • Scheduling upgrades, planned outages, and system optimization.

  • Maximize environment by utilizing performance monitoring.

  • Troubleshooting system problems and outages.

  • Monitor overall performance and proactively identify potential issues and tune appropriately.

  • Performs root cause analysis on failed components and implements corrective measures.

  • Serve as a liaison between Cincinnati Children's departments and Information Services.

  • Support departmental efforts to improve customer satisfaction.

  • Participate in on-call support rotation, handling incident management, problem determination, and resolution.

Analysis

  • Participate in analyzing, designing, implementing, and maintaining moderately complex systems to improve clinical care and patient management.

  • Support system testing and document outcomes.

  • Develop technical solutions and design, write, and prepare user and technical documentation.

  • Analyze existing documentation and provide corrections and enhancements.

  • Utilize the development lifecycle process, operating procedures, and documentation to implement and support system solutions.

Customer Support

  • Ensure outstanding end-user support, including monitoring Service Level Agreements for incident management.

  • Collaborate with other areas to ensure customer-centered incident management and support.

  • Adhere to and promote continual adoption of change management policies and procedures.

  • Model outstanding customer service behavior, including timely and effective follow-up with customers.

  • Maintain Cincinnati Children’s service standards of being Courteous, Attentive, Respectful, Enthusiastic, and Safe (CARES).

Professional Development

  • Develop knowledge and professional skills through cross-training, literature, and attendance at department meetings and vendor education.

  • Develop and maintain positive relationships, both internal and external to Cincinnati Children’s.

  • Motivate people and encourage teamwork, fostering a positive team environment.

  • Prepare oral and written presentations and participate in instructional seminars.

  • Develop expertise in several Cincinnati Children's computer-based systems.

Project Management

  • Participate in the design, development, and implementation of requests.

  • Identify appropriate resources needed to complete projects.

  • Support communication between internal and external parties on project-related issues and developments.

  • Participate in developing and managing project plans.

  • Determine the scope and complexity of projects.

  • Work with cross-functional teams.

JOB QUALIFICATIONS

  • Bachelor's degree in a related field or equivalent combination of education and experience

  • 5+ years of work experience in a related job discipline

PREFERRED SKILLS & COMPETENCIES

  • Experience with some of the following automation/scripting/programing using PowerShell, Python, Terraform.

  • In depth understanding of one or more of the following platforms: VMware, Azure Local, Hyper-V, Microsoft Clustering.

  • Strong analytical, problem solving, critical thinking and innovative solution capabilities.

  • Self-motivated and excels in both team and individual environments.

  • Ability to test new releases of products to ensure compatibility and minimize user impact.

  • Develop and document technical processes and procedures as needed.

  • Adhere to strict Information Systems security guidelines in all aspects of work.

  • Communicate effectively at all levels of the organization, with internal or external customers, in written and oral format.

  • Handles self with finesse and diplomacy with an understanding of changing priorities.

  • Demonstrates an independent work initiative, sound judgment, tact and professional demeanor.

  • Analyze customer requirements and determine proper solutions.

  • Interact with, meet with, discuss, and troubleshoot issues with vendors; evaluate vendor products, services to provide enterprise level solutions.
