Senior Software Engineer - Elixir

JOB SUMMARY

Green Light is a healthcare technology company focused on helping health plan dollars go as far as possible. Our systems operate on large-scale healthcare data and require high reliability, correctness, and performance.

We are hiring a Senior Software Engineer to design, build, and operate production systems using an Elixir-based stack. This role is ideal for engineers who prefer server-driven architecture, value system simplicity, and enjoy solving complex problems under real-world constraints. This is a full-stack role.

You will have significant ownership over system design, performance, and reliability, and will help shape the long-term technical direction of the platform.

WHAT YOU’LL DO

• Design, build, and operate production systems using Elixir, OTP, and Phoenix
• Own services end-to-end: architecture, implementation, deployment, and production support
• Build interactive user interfaces
• Design and evolve systems for high-throughput data processing
• Work with relational database systems
• Improve system performance, observability, and reliability in production
• Participate in incident response, debugging, and root cause analysis
• Contribute to architectural decisions with a focus on long-term maintainability
• Collaborate across engineering, product, and operations to deliver high-impact features
• Mentor engineers and contribute to a strong engineering culture
• Apply secure coding practices and ensure systems meet healthcare data privacy and security requirements

WHAT WE’RE LOOKING FOR

• Strong production experience with Elixir, including OTP and BEAM fundamentals
• Experience building applications with Phoenix (LiveView experience is a plus)
• Experience with Git-based version control workflows and source code management platforms, including branching strategies and merge/pull request processes
• Familiarity with agile development practices, including sprint planning, backlog refinement, and iterative delivery
• Experience working with CI/CD pipelines - maintaining, troubleshooting, and supporting automated build and deployment workflows
• Ability to write clear, well-scoped tickets and manage work items throughout the development lifecycle
• Experience designing and operating distributed systems or high-reliability services
• Experience working with relational databases in production environments
• Strong understanding of functional programming principles
• Experience building APIs and backend systems
• Experience conducting peer code reviews and providing constructive, actionable feedback
• Ability to reason about performance, concurrency, and system trade-offs
• Comfortable owning production systems, including incident response
• Experience working in Linux-based or containerized environments, including Docker

WHAT TO EXPECT IN YOUR FIRST 90 DAYS

You will play a key role in building new functionality and supporting a platform to assist health plans in managing negotiation and dispute resolution workflows in a regulated healthcare environment.

This includes:

• Designing and implementing systems on top of large-scale data platforms
• Building performant workflows for analyzing and comparing complex reimbursement scenarios
• Partnering with domain experts to translate regulatory and operational requirements into robust software systems

This is a high-impact system with meaningful design ownership, built on top of substantial data assets.
