The Senior Software Engineer will establish reusable engineering patterns, support application onboarding, manage continuous integration and continuous delivery pipelines and infrastructure automation, integrate artificial intelligence services, and ensure applications are scalable, observable, secure, accessible, and maintainable.
Key Responsibilities
Full-Stack Application Development

Design and develop front-end, middleware, API, database, and back-end application components.

Build applications using React, Node.js, Express, PostgreSQL, and comparable technologies.

Design software architecture, interfaces, APIs, data flows, and integration patterns.

Develop scalable, maintainable, and reusable application components.

Translate user, business, and mission requirements into effective technical solutions.

Support application installations, upgrades, configuration, troubleshooting, and performance optimization.
Cloud Infrastructure and DevSecOps

Develop cloud infrastructure using Terraform and other infrastructure-as-code tools.

Build and maintain Git-based continuous integration and continuous delivery pipelines.

Implement automated testing, code-quality controls, vulnerability scanning, and release-management processes.

Support repeatable application builds, deployments, rollback procedures, and environment configuration.

Integrate application logging, performance monitoring, observability, and alerting.

Troubleshoot infrastructure, deployment, integration, and application-performance issues.
Architecture, Standards, and Application Onboarding

Refactor and onboard externally developed applications into controlled enterprise environments.

Develop reusable software-engineering standards, templates, reference architectures, and onboarding procedures.

Establish consistent engineering patterns for application development, integration, testing, deployment, and sustainment.

Conduct application and architecture assessments and recommend modernization approaches.

Support system integration across cloud services, enterprise platforms, APIs, databases, and external applications.

Conduct code reviews, design reviews, technical demonstrations, and knowledge-transfer sessions.
Artificial Intelligence Integration

Integrate AI and machine-learning models and generative AI services into production applications.

Support the integration of retrieval-augmented generation pipelines, advanced chatbots, predictive models, and document-processing services.

Collaborate with AI engineers and data scientists to develop reliable application interfaces for AI-enabled capabilities.

Implement appropriate application controls, logging, monitoring, and error handling for AI services.

Support the onboarding and production operation of externally developed AI applications.
Security, Identity, and Accessibility

Support role-based access control, identity management, secrets management, and audit logging.

Implement security controls within applications, cloud infrastructure, deployment pipelines, and integration services.

Support vulnerability remediation, security authorization, and continuous-monitoring activities.

Ensure user interfaces and electronic deliverables meet applicable accessibility requirements.

Collaborate with security, privacy, accessibility, and cloud teams to address technical and compliance requirements.
Documentation and Collaboration

Prepare system architecture documents, build plans, operating procedures, security documentation, and user guides.

Document application configurations, interfaces, deployment procedures, dependencies, and technical decisions.

Collaborate with AI engineers, product managers, cloud engineers, security teams, and customer stakeholders.

Participate in Agile or Scrum planning, demonstrations, reviews, and technical working sessions.

Provide technical knowledge transfer and support to developers, administrators, and end users.
Minimum Qualifications

Bachelor’s or master’s degree in computer science, software engineering, artificial intelligence, machine learning, or a related field.

Five to ten years of relevant software-engineering experience.

Extensive experience in software development, scripting, architecture, and systems integration.

Experience with Agile or Scrum software-development methodologies.

Strong knowledge of relational databases and database-design principles.

Hands-on experience developing applications with multiple frameworks.

Full-stack development experience with PostgreSQL, Express, React, Node.js, or comparable technologies.

Knowledge of National Institute of Standards and Technology controls, Controlled Unclassified Information, personally identifiable information, and FedRAMP requirements.
