Overview

The Senior Revenue Accountant is responsible for supporting Cotiviti’s revenue accounting function through the application of U.S. GAAP and ASC 606 revenue recognition guidance. This role reviews customer contracts, evaluates complex and non-standard revenue transactions, prepares technical accounting documentation, performs revenue-related journal entries and reconciliations, and ensures the accuracy and completeness of revenue data within the Company's financial systems.

 

The Senior Revenue Accountant serves as a key contributor to the monthly and quarterly financial close process and plays a critical role in maintaining compliance with SOX requirements, supporting internal and external audits, and facilitating the integration of newly acquired businesses into the Company's revenue accounting processes and systems. This position partners closely with Revenue Accounting, Finance, Sales, Legal, Billing, FP&A, and operational stakeholders to ensure revenue is recognized accurately, consistently, and in accordance with Company policy and accounting standards.

 

This position is responsible for preparing journal entries, account reconciliations and other activities associated with the monthly general ledger close and preparing balance sheet and income statement variance analysis.

Responsibilities

  • Prepare quarterly and annual revenue related financial statement items and footnotes accordance with GAAP.
  • Review customer contracts, amendments, renewals, and non-standard arrangements to determine appropriate revenue recognition treatment under GAAP ASC 606.
  • Analyze and document complex accounting conclusions related to revenue recognition, contract modifications, variable consideration, performance obligations, and other technical accounting matters.
  • Prepare and record monthly revenue-related journal entries in accordance with GAAP and Company policies.
  • Perform monthly account reconciliations, investigate variances, and resolve reconciling items on a timely basis.
  • Validate revenue-related data within ERP and financial reporting systems to ensure completeness and accuracy.
  • Support the monthly, quarterly, and annual close processes by completing revenue accounting activities within established deadlines.
  • Prepare and maintain revenue accounting schedules, supporting documentation, and technical accounting memoranda.
  • Partner with Sales, Legal, Billing, Customer Operations, and Finance teams to review contract terms and resolve revenue recognition issues.    
  • Assist with the development, implementation, and enhancement of revenue accounting policies, procedures, and internal controls.
  • Execute and maintain SOX 404 controls related to revenue accounting and ensure appropriate documentation and evidence are retained.
  • Support internal and external financial statement audits by preparing analyses, documentation, and responses related to revenue accounting matters.
  • Assist with acquisition integrations, including revenue process assessments, contract evaluations, ERP alignment, and accounting policy implementation.    
  • Identify opportunities for process improvement, automation, and increased efficiency within the revenue accounting function.
  • Monitor emerging accounting guidance and assess the impact of new accounting standards on the Company's revenue recognition practices.    
  • Support management reporting and ad hoc analyses related to revenue trends, forecasts, and operational initiatives.
  • Complete all responsibilities as outlined in annual performance reviews and goal-setting activities.
  • Complete all special projects and other duties as assigned.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree with an emphasis in Accounting.
  • Certified Public Accountant (or on current path to achieve certification) is a plus.
  • Minimum of 3 years of progressive accounting experience with a concentration in technical revenue accounting in the software industry.
  • Strong knowledge of U.S. GAAP and ASC 606 revenue recognition guidance.
  • Experience reviewing and interpreting complex customer contracts and commercial arrangements.
  • Experience in a public company environment and familiarity with SOX 404 compliance requirements preferred.
  • Knowledge of ERP systems such as Oracle NetSuite, Oracle, SAP, or similar financial platforms.
  • Experience supporting financial statement audits and responding to auditor inquiries.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills with the ability to exercise sound professional judgment.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills, including the ability to document technical accounting conclusions.
  • Ability to manage multiple priorities and meet tight month-end and quarter-end deadlines.
  • Advanced Microsoft Excel skills.
  • Experience supporting mergers, acquisitions, or business integrations is preferred.
  • Ability to work independently and collaboratively in a fast-paced environment.

Physical Requirements and Working Conditions:

  • Primarily sedentary work in a general office environment.
  • Requires manual dexterity to use computer, telephone and peripherals.
  • May be required to work extended hours for special business needs.
  • May be required to travel at least 5% of time based on business needs.
  • Remaining in a stationary position, often standing or sitting for prolonged periods.
  • Must be able to provide a dedicated, secure work area.
  • Must be able to provide high-speed internet access / connectivity and office setup and maintenance.

Base compensation ranges from $85,000 to $105,000. Specific offers are determined by various factors, such as experience, education, skills, certifications, and other business needs.
