Job Purpose

As a Senior QA Engineer specializing in Composable Commerce, you will own quality assurance for a substantial feature area, complex integration scope, project, or defined delivery workstream. You will translate business requirements, solution architecture, service contracts, dependencies, production risks, and release needs into a balanced, risk-based QA approach while remaining hands-on in exploratory testing, API and integration validation, distributed-system investigation, and Playwright + TypeScript automation.

You will coordinate quality coverage across independently deployed storefront, backend-for-frontend, commerce, content, search, payment, order-management, analytics, caching, and third-party services. You will consolidate quality evidence, communicate residual risk and release options to engineering, delivery, product, and client stakeholders, and mentor less-experienced QA engineers.

Key Responsibilities

  • Own the QA approach, planning, and execution for a substantial composable-commerce feature area, complex integration scope, project, or defined delivery workstream.
  • Analyze business requirements, acceptance criteria, customer journeys, solution designs, service contracts, architecture assumptions, data dependencies, configuration, and change impact to identify quality and testability risks early.
  • Define a balanced, risk-based approach covering scope, priorities, test levels, test types, traceability, regression depth, estimates, dependencies, entry and exit criteria, quality gates, and release evidence.
  • Select the most effective component, API, contract, integration, system, UI, and end-to-end test levels for each risk, avoiding duplicated, unstable, low-value, or unnecessarily UI-heavy coverage.
  • Validate critical commerce journeys including product discovery, product detail, cart, checkout, payments, promotions, pricing, inventory, customer accounts, localization, session and basket behavior, order lifecycle, error states, and hybrid checkout handoffs where applicable.
  • Validate quality across storefronts, backend-for-frontend services, microservices, commerce platforms, CMS, PIM, OMS, search, payment providers, analytics, CDN and caching layers, feature flags, and third-party services.
  • Design and execute API, contract, and integration testing covering schemas, authentication and authorization, pagination, rate limits, idempotency, retries, timeouts, webhooks, asynchronous events, error handling, and graceful degradation.
  • Test distributed-system failure modes including degraded dependencies, eventual consistency, stale content, cache invalidation, duplicate or delayed events, partial transaction failures, retry behavior, and fallback experiences.
  • Design, implement, debug, and maintain scalable Playwright + TypeScript automated tests across UI and API layers using maintainable abstractions, reliable test data, meaningful assertions, test isolation, parallel execution, and CI/CD integration.
  • Coordinate testing dependencies across environments, test data, service versions, integrations, deployment pipelines, feature flags, teams, and release activities.
  • Prepare repeatable test data through commerce administration tools, CMS workflows, API helpers, payment and order simulations, and environment configuration checks.
  • Lead complex cross-layer defect investigation using browser and network logs, API responses, Playwright artifacts, CI results, application logs, distributed traces, monitoring dashboards, correlation identifiers, test data, and environment configuration.
  • Create actionable defects with clear reproduction steps, expected and actual results, evidence, business impact, severity rationale, regression exposure, and likely ownership.
  • Apply baseline accessibility, frontend performance, security, SEO, localization, browser, device, resilience, and compatibility checks to critical journeys, involving specialists when deeper validation is required.
  • Monitor critical-risk coverage, regression feedback time, automation stability, flake rate, defect trends, escaped defects, quality-gate results, and unresolved release risks.
  • Consolidate quality evidence and provide evidence-based recommendations for release, conditional acceptance, remediation, redeployment, rollback, or escalation for the owned scope.
  • Use approved AI-assisted QA tools for analysis, test design, automation, documentation, and defect investigation, validating generated outputs against requirements and application evidence.
  • Review important QA outputs, mentor less-experienced engineers, and contribute reusable Playwright components, API validation patterns, composable risk catalogs, troubleshooting guidance, checklists, onboarding materials, and platform-specific QA recommendations.

Required Qualifications

  • Demonstrated experience operating at Senior QA scope and owning quality activities for a significant feature area, complex integration scope, project, or delivery workstream.
  • Typically 4+ years of professional software-testing experience, including substantial hands-on experience with composable, headless, or integration-heavy digital-commerce solutions.
  • Strong manual QA judgment in requirements analysis, exploratory testing, risk assessment, test design, regression planning, defect investigation, and release-readiness evaluation.
  • Hands-on experience building and maintaining Playwright + TypeScript automation frameworks and test suites integrated with CI/CD pipelines.
  • Strong understanding of balanced automation across component, API, contract, integration, and end-to-end UI levels.
  • Strong API and integration-testing experience, including contract validation, authentication and authorization, failure handling, idempotency, retries, timeouts, asynchronous processing, webhooks, and third-party dependency behavior.
  • Strong understanding of composable or headless architecture and interactions among storefronts, backend-for-frontend services, commerce platforms, CMS, PIM, search, payments, order management, analytics, caching, feature flags, and third-party systems.
  • Practical e-commerce domain knowledge covering catalog, product discovery, pricing, promotions, inventory, checkout, payments, customer accounts, localization, and order lifecycle.
  • Solid understanding of HTTP, REST, DOM, cookies, sessions, browser storage, caching, client-server interaction, and network diagnostics.
  • Experience estimating and planning complex QA work, including dependencies, environments, test data, constraints, regression impact, and release risk.
  • Ability to communicate quality risks, coverage decisions, defect impact, release options, and automation trade-offs to engineering, delivery, product, and client stakeholders.
  • Professional English communication skills sufficient to lead technical and quality-risk discussions in a global delivery environment.
  • Demonstrated ability to review QA work and mentor other engineers without formal management authority.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience with Salesforce Commerce Cloud, SCAPI, OCAPI, Business Manager, PWA Kit, Shopify, or hybrid checkout integrations.
  • Experience testing React, Next.js, Hydrogen, or other modern storefront applications.
  • Experience with contract-testing tools, service virtualization, distributed tracing, observability platforms, or synthetic monitoring.
  • Experience with accessibility, performance, security, SEO, resilience, or multi-region commerce testing.
  • Experience contributing reusable QA standards, playbooks, automation components, risk models, or platform-specific testing guidance.
  • Experience using approved AI-assisted engineering tools such as GitHub Copilot, Claude Code or Cursor with appropriate human review.
  • Client-facing consultancy experience in complex global delivery environments.
