You will act as the primary legal counsel for product and AI initiatives, ensuring compliance with the EU AI Act, GDPR, and cybersecurity regulations. You will collaborate closely with engineering and leadership teams to integrate legal requirements into the product development lifecycle.
Are you ready to make some history?!
Foleon is a leading content creation platform providing business teams with a fast and scalable way to produce highly-engaging content experiences that bring a new level of intelligence to their customer journeys.
Foleon is based in Amsterdam and New York and serves more than 1,200 global B2B brands. We value people who are bold, ambitious, collaborative, and customer-centric. Even better, the ones who know how to work hard and have fun at the same time. We’re a team of highly driven people, with a great sense of human connection and a clear focus.
Your Mission
As our Senior Product & AI Counsel, you’ll own the legal side of our product and AI proposition, working with us about one day a week on a retainer basis. It’s a new role. You’ll work closely with Product, Engineering and leadership to make sure what we build and ship holds up under the EU AI Act, cybersecurity law, digital accessibility rules and GDPR.
Your Job
Act as our product counsel: join product syncs, review features before they’re built, and flag legal and compliance questions early.
Lead compliance for our AI proposition: classify our AI use cases, map our obligations as a provider or deployer under the EU AI Act, and set up the documentation, transparency and governance it requires.
Make sure our platform, and the content our customers publish with it, meets the European Accessibility Act and related standards.
Build privacy into the product by advising on GDPR questions tied to new features and data.
Advise on cybersecurity law, including NIS2, the Cyber Resilience Act and incident reporting duties, working closely with our security team.
Track changes in AI, cybersecurity, accessibility and privacy regulation, and turn them into practical guidance for the team.
Your Competencies & Skills
Senior and independent: you make calls and own them, without someone steering you.
A practical communicator who explains complex regulation to product teams in plain language, with answers instead of memos full of caveats.
Proactive and curious: you spot gaps before they become problems and want to understand how the product actually works.
Comfortable working part-time and flexibly, and available when something urgent comes up.
Your Qualifications
A Master’s in Law (or equivalent) and 6+ years of experience, ideally a mix of law firm and in-house at a tech or SaaS company.
Hands-on experience as product counsel for software, ideally including AI products.
Deep working knowledge of the EU AI Act and how it applies to AI propositions in practice.
Experience with cybersecurity law (NIS2, Cyber Resilience Act) and digital accessibility rules (European Accessibility Act).
A solid grounding in commercial and corporate law, with working knowledge of employment law.
GDPR and privacy expertise is a plus, ideally at DPO level or with a certification such as CIPP/E.
Experience working with scale-ups on a retainer or fractional basis is a plus.
Fluent English. Dutch is a plus.
Note: All our hiring is done in-house, so we’re not looking for agency support for this role. Thanks for understanding!
