About the Role

Our team is seeking a Senior Power Apps/Power BI Developer to join our fast-growing IT-project based consulting business. We need a team member who is ready to design, architect, and lead the implementation of innovative Power Platform and business intelligence solutions to support the missions of our customers. We have several large projects, some established, some just getting started, at the Department of Veterans Affairs and we need smart team members to help us deliver.

The successful candidate will be an inquisitive problem solver with the ability to quickly analyze the needs of specific projects and architect and implement effective solutions. In this fully remote role, you will lead the design of Power Apps interfaces and enterprise-scale reporting that leadership uses to measure program performance and contractor accountability, and guide the team toward creative solutions to our customers' challenges. You will work and collaborate on a team of project managers, business analysts, developers/engineers, and QA staff within an Agile environment. As a crucial member of our team, you will also be expected to interface with client representatives, including product owners, business owners, technical leads, and solution architects.

Responsibilities

• Analyze customer needs and lead the development of the overall design concept and objectives with an eye to performance, usability, architecture, and security.
• Design, build, and maintain Power Apps that serve as the user interface for a custom-developed, Azure-hosted enterprise system.
• Lead the design of new Power Apps capabilities and enhancements to existing interfaces.
• Architect Power BI data models, reports, and executive dashboards, including complex DAX measures and Power Query transformations.
• Design local, regional, and national reporting using dashboards, charts, maps, and other visualization formats.
• Design and oversee the integration and transformation of data from Microsoft SQL Server, enterprise data warehouses, and external partner data sources that refresh daily.
• Own Power BI data gateway configuration, refresh strategy, and troubleshooting.
• Lead data quality analysis to identify trends, outliers, and issues requiring upstream remediation, and coordinate remediation with data owners.
• Define role-based access and row-level security patterns for applications and reports.
• Ensure applications and reports meet Section 508 accessibility requirements.
• Optimize report and data model performance for large datasets and high user volumes.
• Lead requirements analysis and estimate level of effort.
• Participate in quarterly PI Planning and lead backlog refinement with product owners.
• Establish source control, branching, and deployment practices using Git (e.g., GitHub).
• Collaborate with product owners, business owners, technical leads, and solution architects to produce software design and architecture documents.
• Support security and Authority to Operate (ATO) compliance activities.
• Perform code and design reviews of apps, reports, and data models.
• Develop documentation throughout the software development life cycle (SDLC).
• Mentor junior and mid-level developers and analysts.

Requirements

Minimum Qualifications

• Bachelor's Degree in Computer Science, Information Systems, or related technical field
• Minimum of seven (7) years of experience in application development, reporting, or business intelligence
• Minimum of four (4) years of on-the-job experience developing Power Apps
• Minimum of four (4) years of on-the-job experience developing Power BI reports and dashboards
• Advanced proficiency with DAX, Power Query (M), and data modeling for enterprise-scale datasets
• Advanced proficiency with Microsoft SQL Server, T-SQL, and SQL Server Management Studio (SSMS), including query performance tuning
• Experience configuring and managing Power BI data gateways and refresh strategies
• Experience designing row-level security and role-based access models
• Experience with Git version control (e.g., GitHub), including branching strategies
• Experience developing Section 508-compliant applications and reports
• Demonstrated experience leading technical work and mentoring other developers
• Minimum three (3) years of experience working in an Agile framework
• Ability to communicate complex concepts effectively to technical and non-technical audiences
• Excellent written and verbal communication skills
• Military experienced candidates are encouraged
• Candidates will need to obtain Security Clearance of Public Trust once hired
• Work is full-time 100% remote

Preferred Qualifications

• Experience with Power Automate, Dataverse, and model-driven apps
• Experience with SQL Server Data Tools (SSDT), including SSIS, Visual Studio, and .NET Framework applications hosted on IIS
• Experience working in Microsoft Azure government cloud environments, including SQL Server workloads hosted in Azure
• Experience with CI/CD or DevSecOps pipelines (e.g., GitHub Actions, Azure DevOps)
• Experience with Jira and Confluence
• Experience working in a Scaled Agile Framework (SAFe) environment
• Experience building map-based and geospatial visualizations in Power BI
• Experience with advanced analytics in Power BI, such as forecasting, clustering, or R/Python visuals
• Experience with healthcare data, including VA Corporate Data Warehouse (CDW) and community care data
• Experience with Federal government agencies, specifically with VA
