The Senior Non-Ferrous Buyer will be responsible for sourcing and purchasing non-ferrous scrap, negotiating prices, evaluating material quality, managing supplier relationships, and making buying decisions that protect company margins. The ideal candidate has spent significant time in the scrap industry and understands that successful buying requires more than knowing commodity prices. You should be comfortable looking at material, determining its grade and recovery, negotiating with suppliers, understanding freight and logistics costs, and adjusting buying prices based on current market conditions. This position can be worked either remotely or at our US HQ in Camden, NJ. The pay for this position is $140 – 160k/yr.

Key Responsibilities

  • Purchase non-ferrous scrap metals including copper, aluminum, brass, stainless steel, and specialty alloys.
  • Source material from industrial accounts, contractors, demolition companies, peddlers, auto wreckers, recycling yards, and other suppliers.
  • Evaluate and grade non-ferrous scrap to determine material quality, specifications, recovery, and appropriate buying price.
  • Negotiate purchase prices, payment terms, freight, and delivery schedules with suppliers.
  • Monitor commodity markets and adjust buying prices and strategies based on market conditions, demand, mill consumption, and market opportunities.
  • Develop new supplier relationships and identify opportunities to increase the volume and quality of incoming material.
  • Maintain strong relationships with existing suppliers to ensure a reliable and consistent flow of material.
  • Conduct supplier visits to evaluate material, strengthen relationships, and identify additional purchasing opportunities.

  • Evaluate the impact of freight and logistics costs when establishing purchase prices.
  • Monitor purchased material, pricing, and market conditions to protect company margins.
  • Coordinate with operations and logistics to support efficient material flow and shipment planning.
  • Identify potential risks related to material quality, pricing, supply, transportation, and changing market conditions.
  • Maintain accurate purchasing records and documentation.
  • Ensure purchasing activities are conducted ethically and in accordance with company policies and applicable regulations.

The most important qualification is hands-on non-ferrous scrap buying experience.
