Engineering Department: Senior Multiplayer Engineer

As a Senior Multiplayer Engineer at Squanch Games, you will own and drive the development of Multiplayer Gameplay Experiences and Systems; partnering closely with design, animation, audio, VFX, QA, and production to deliver features and content from prototype to final quality.

Every day, you will be working as part of a cross-disciplinary team to further the development of multiplayer gameplay systems and features.

You will be a go-to for creating and improving our enemy AI behaviors, combat / weapons, and player movement and traversal abilities so they function well within a networked multiplayer environment.

But you already know that! You’ve successfully done this role at another studio, and now you’re looking for an opportunity to really flex your creative muscles.

What You'll Do:

  • Work directly with the project leads to help steer development of the multiplayer features. Are proactive about maintaining stability and parity of features across networked players.
  • Solve difficult and multi-faceted problems with a willingness to track down answers when no solutions are readily available.
  • Prototype complex features and suggest improvements that would elevate gameplay.
  • Diagnose performance problems related to network replication, bandwidth usage, etc.
  • Develop automated tests to validate network behavior from different points of view.
  • Collaboratively design, implement, and refine a variety of gameplay features within a networked multiplayer setting.
  • Maintain constant contact with other departments so that their feedback is properly taken into account.
  • Continually push for quality and create gameplay systems utilizing your knowledge of modern game technology.
  • Provide support and mentorship to other engineers; take time to answer questions, review code, and build up the skill sets of other members on the team.

What We're Looking For:

  • Experience working on console or PC games in the Unreal Engine through a full development cycle, from pre-production to release as an Engineer.
  • Significant experience working on gameplay systems, especially those with a multiplayer focus.
  • Well-versed in AI behaviors, combat systems, and player traversal within a networked multiplayer setting.
  • Solid experience with 3rd party matchmaking and login services.
  • Familiarity with profiling tools, especially Unreal Insights and Fiddler.
  • Strong proficiency in C++ and 3D maths such as vectors, matrixes, and quaternions.
  • Adept communication skills, especially cross-discipline, with the ability to break down technical concepts in an understandable way for non-technical departments.
  • Experience with writing in-depth documentation that is clear for non-engineers.
  • You have a passion for games: you know what's going on in the world of games, and can't wait to talk with others about it!

Benefits:

  • Salary range: $156,000 to $187,200, depending on experience
  • Health, dental & vision insurance with dependent coverage
  • Short term & long term disability insurance coverage
  • FSA & Dependent Care FSA
  • Paid parental leave
  • 401(k) with match
  • Flexible PTO & schedule
  • Completely remote studio
  • Stipend to ensure a comfortable work-from-home setup
  • Monthly snack box shipped directly to you
  • Monthly stipend for WFH expenses
