The Senior Linux System Administrator is responsible for the administration, maintenance, security, performance, and availability of Red Hat Enterprise Linux (RHEL) server environments supporting Bell Canada.
The role manages server patching, updates, upgrades, performance tuning, security hardening, vulnerability management, infrastructure changes, system monitoring, incident response, and automation. The position also participates in disaster recovery and business continuity activities and provides after-hours on-call support as required to maintain reliable and resilient server operations.
As part of a global IT team, the Senior Linux System Administrator collaborates with network, database, application, and other technology teams to resolve complex infrastructure issues, support system integration, and improve operational efficiency through scripting, automation, Infrastructure as Code (IaC), configuration management, and effective technical documentation.

SPECIFIC DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
|
- Administer and maintain Red Hat server environments, including patching, updates, upgrades, and performance tuning, to maintain stable, reliable, and efficient server operations.
- Provide after-hours on-call support and respond to system incidents and alerts to minimize service disruption and restore normal operations promptly and efficiently.
- Implement and manage infrastructure changes, including proper documentation, testing, and execution, to support controlled technology changes and minimize operational risk.
- Perform server security hardening, vulnerability assessments, and security incident response to strengthen infrastructure security and maintain established security practices.
- Monitor system performance, capacity, and availability using appropriate monitoring tools to proactively identify and resolve issues affecting infrastructure health and performance.
- Collaborate with network, database, application, and other IT teams to support seamless infrastructure integration, cross-functional troubleshooting, and effective technology operations.
- Participate in disaster recovery and business continuity planning and testing to support system recovery and maintain operational resilience during outages or disruptions.
- Automate system administration activities using Python, Ansible, Bash, and applicable automation technologies to improve operational efficiency, standardize configurations, and reduce manual effort.
- Create and maintain technical documentation, including system configurations, operating procedures, and troubleshooting guides, to support knowledge sharing, operational consistency, and effective issue resolution.
- Maintain knowledge of current technologies and trends in Linux server administration, security, and operations to support continuous improvement of infrastructure management practices.

Educational Qualification/s
Required
- Bachelor’s Degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, Engineering, or related fields.

- Red Hat Ansible Automation Platform certifications

Professional Qualification/s
Required
- Minimum of 5 years of hands-on experience in Linux Server Administration, with a strong focus on managing, maintaining, and troubleshooting Red Hat Enterprise Linux (RHEL) environments.
- At least 5 years of experience with enterprise virtualization platforms, including VMware vSphere, VMware vCenter, and Red Hat OpenStack, covering deployment, administration, performance tuning, and operational support.
- Proven experience in scripting and automation using Python, Ansible, and Bash, applying Infrastructure as Code (IaC) and configuration management practices to automate server provisioning, patching, configuration deployment, monitoring, and routine operational activities across enterprise Linux platforms.
- Strong understanding of networking concepts and infrastructure services, including TCP/IP, DNS, DHCP, routing, and network troubleshooting within enterprise environments.
- Experience supporting and administering both modern and legacy Red Hat Enterprise Linux (RHEL) and Linux server platforms, maintaining system availability, stability, security, and performance across diverse enterprise infrastructure environments.
- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills with the ability to identify, troubleshoot, and resolve complex server, virtualization, and network-related issues.
- Excellent communication and collaboration skills with the ability to work effectively within cross-functional teams and provide technical guidance when required.
- Experience working in 24/7 enterprise production environments, supporting critical business applications and infrastructure while adhering to operational and change management processes.

- 24x7 Rotational Support - Must be amenable to be assigned to any of the shifts below:
- Morning: 5AM-2PM PHT
- Mid: 12PM-9PM PHT
- Night: 8PM-5AM PHT
On-Call Requirements:
- Occasional overtime and on-call support may be required based on operational or project needs
