We are seeking an experienced California-licensed immigration attorney to help expand our California practice. This position represents a unique leadership opportunity for an accomplished attorney who is passionate about immigration law and desires to grow into a Managing Attorney responsible for leading attorneys, developing legal teams, and helping shape the future of our California operations.
 

Essential Responsibilities and Duties

Client Advocacy & Representation

  • Develop sophisticated legal strategies that achieve favorable outcomes across multiple immigration practice areas.

  • Represent clients in immigration matters including, but not limited to:

○ Removal Defense

○ Family-Based Immigration

○ Adjustment of Status

○ Consular Processing

○ Asylum

○ Humanitarian Relief

○ VAWA

○ T Visas

○ U Visas

○ SIJS

○ Employment-Based Immigration

○ Waivers

○ Naturalization & Citizenship

○ Appeals

○ Complex Immigration Litigation

  • Conduct advanced legal consultations involving highly complex immigration matters.

  • Represent clients before USCIS, EOIR Immigration Courts, ICE, and other government agencies.

  • Prepare clients for interviews, hearings, litigation, and appellate proceedings.

  • Develop creative legal strategies utilizing statutes, regulations, agency guidance, and case law.

  • Serve as senior legal counsel for complex or high-profile matters.

  • Maintain the highest standards of professionalism, ethics, confidentiality, and client advocacy.

Case Strategy & Legal Leadership

  • Oversee complex legal matters from consultation through final resolution.

  • Review petitions, motions, briefs, appeals, declarations, and legal memoranda prepared by attorneys and legal support staff.

  • Conduct advanced legal research involving complex immigration issues.

  • Develop standardized legal strategies and best practices across the California office.

  • Monitor legal quality and ensure compliance with Firm standards.

  • Identify opportunities to improve legal efficiency and client outcomes.

  • Support quality assurance initiatives throughout the legal department.

  • Participate in legal policy development and strategic planning.

Leadership & People Development

  • Mentor Associate Attorneys and newly licensed attorneys.

  • Provide coaching regarding litigation strategy, client communication, legal writing, and professional development.

  • Conduct legal case reviews and strategy meetings.

  • Assist in onboarding newly hired attorneys.

  • Promote collaboration across legal departments.

  • Foster a culture of accountability, legal excellence, innovation, and continuous improvement.

  • Support attorney performance management through coaching and constructive feedback.

  • Assist with recruiting, interviewing, and attorney selection.

  • Prepare for transition into Managing Attorney responsibilities.

Business Growth & Organizational Leadership

  • Partner with executive leadership to support expansion of the Firm's California operations.

  • Participate in community outreach and professional networking.

  • Build relationships with referral partners and community organizations.

  • Assist in identifying growth opportunities throughout California.

  • Support legal operations initiatives and organizational planning.

  • Represent the Firm at legal conferences, bar association events, and community functions.

  • Contribute to the Firm's long-term strategic vision.

Required Qualifications

  • Juris Doctor (J.D.) from an accredited law school.

  • Active California Bar License in good standing.

  • Minimum five (5) years of immigration law experience.

  • Demonstrated experience across multiple immigration practice areas.

  • Strong litigation, legal writing, negotiation, and advocacy skills.

  • Experience representing clients before USCIS and EOIR.

  • Strong leadership and mentorship abilities.

  • Excellent communication and relationship-building skills.

  • Ability to manage complex legal matters independently.

  • Commitment to ethical legal practice and client-centered advocacy.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Seven (7) or more years of immigration law experience.

  • Previous supervisory or Managing Attorney experience.

  • Demonstrated success mentoring attorneys.

  • Experience managing high-volume immigration legal teams.

  • Experience implementing legal processes and quality assurance initiatives.

  • Experience supporting office growth or regional expansion.

  • Bilingual English and Spanish strongly preferred.

  • Experience with Litify or Salesforce-based legal platforms.

  • Experience leading organizational change initiatives.

Legal Team Performance: Support achievement of departmental productivity and quality goals.

Case Outcomes: Maintain favorable legal outcomes consistent with Firm expectations.

Leadership Engagement: Actively participate in leadership initiatives, strategic planning, and attorney development programs.

Operational Excellence: Identify and implement continuous improvement initiatives supporting legal quality and operational efficiency.

Professional Development: Complete all required CLE requirements while actively participating in advanced leadership development programs.

Work Environment & Schedule

  • Full-Time, Exempt Position.

  • Onsite position located in California.

  • Standard business hours with professional flexibility required to accommodate court appearances, client needs, leadership meetings, and operational priorities.

  • Occasional travel throughout California and other Firm locations may be required.

Salary & Benefits

Salary Range: $88,000 – $260,000

This requisition may be filled at one of several Attorney career levels (Attorney I–V), depending on the selected candidate's education, licensure, post-bar experience, demonstrated legal expertise, litigation capabilities, leadership experience, and overall qualifications.

Placement within the applicable salary band is determined in accordance with the Firm's Attorney Staffing & Advancement Policy. Salary progression within each band is based on sustained performance, competency development, organizational contribution, client outcomes, and business needs.

Physical Demands

The team member is regularly required to sit, stand, walk, communicate, and use their hands to perform work-related tasks. The position may require extended periods of computer use, legal research, document review, client communication, courtroom preparation, and travel.

Occasional lifting of files, exhibits, records, and office materials weighing up to 10 pounds may be required. The attorney must be able to travel by vehicle or air throughout Texas and access immigration courts, detention facilities, government offices, client meeting locations, and firm facilities as required.
