Why We’re Here
“No one working full time in the richest country on Earth should have to choose between a doctor’s visit and dinner on the table. But that’s exactly what happens when we treat health care like a luxury instead of a right.” Community Catalyst is seeking Senior Foundations Officer to help shape the national conversation on health justice and elevate the organization’s role as a leading authority on equitable health systems in the United States.

About Community Catalyst

Community Catalyst is the national health justice organization working to ensure care is accessible, affordable, and accountable to the people it serves—and that racial bias does not determine who receives care. For more than two decades, Community Catalyst has partnered with state and community advocates to change systems before harm occurs. The organization integrates policy reform, community organizing, data science, narrative strategy, and thought leadership to advance structural change in health care.

The Opportunity

The Senior Foundations Officer manages an assigned portfolio of foundation funders and prospects and advances opportunities through cultivation, solicitation, reporting, and renewal. Working across program, finance, communications, and executive teams, the Senior Officer translates Community Catalyst's health justice and systems-change work into compelling funding opportunities. The role independently manages assigned relationships and deliverables while partnering with the Associate Director on portfolio strategy, complex or high-value opportunities, revenue planning, and matters requiring senior-level coordination.

Key Responsibilities

Foundation Portfolio Management and Stewardship

  • Manage an assigned portfolio of foundation funders and prospects, including engagement plans, deadlines, next steps, and revenue goals.
  • Cultivate trusted relationships with program officers and serve as the primary day-to-day contact for assigned funders.
  • Develop stewardship and renewal strategies that deepen relationships and position Community Catalyst for continued or expanded support.
  • Prepare briefings and meeting materials, coordinate internal participants, and ensure timely follow-up.

New Business and Proposal Development

  • Research, qualify, and advance prospects aligned with organizational priorities and the foundation revenue strategy.
  • Conduct outreach and discovery to assess alignment, timing, decision-making processes, and viable paths to support.
  • Lead concept papers, letters of inquiry, proposals, renewal requests, presentations, and other funder-facing materials for assigned opportunities.
  • Translate complex policy, advocacy, research, and systems-change work into clear narratives connecting strategy, outcomes, learning, and impact.
  • Coordinate proposal timelines, internal reviews, budgets, attachments, approvals, and submissions in partnership with program and finance colleagues.

Grant Management and Internal Coordination

  • Coordinate accurate and timely narrative and financial reports and monitor grant requirements, deadlines, and relationship milestones.
  • Maintain complete Salesforce records, including contacts, activities, opportunity stages, projections, deadlines, and next steps.
  • Build strong cross-team relationships to understand emerging work, funding needs, and philanthropic opportunities.
  • Provide concise portfolio updates for pipeline reviews, forecasting, and Advancement planning, elevating risks or barriers promptly.
  • Perform other related duties as needed to advance the organization's fundraising goals.

Required Qualifications

  • At least five years of progressively responsible experience in foundation relations, institutional fundraising, advancement, or a related field; equivalent combinations of education and experience will be considered.
  • Experience managing foundation relationships and opportunities through cultivation, solicitation, reporting, and renewal.
  • Excellent persuasive writing and editing skills across proposals, concept papers, letters of inquiry, presentations, and reports.
  • Ability to synthesize complex policy, advocacy, research, or systems-change work into clear and compelling funder communications.
  • Strong project management, interpersonal, and organizational skills, including the ability to manage competing deadlines and multiple stakeholders.
  • Sound judgment and the ability to work independently and collaboratively with funders, senior leaders, and cross-functional colleagues.
  • Proficiency with CRM systems and disciplined data management; Salesforce experience preferred.
  • Commitment to health justice, racial equity, and Community Catalyst's mission and values.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience working with major national, regional, or health-focused foundations.
  • Experience fundraising in health justice, public health, health policy, advocacy, racial equity, or systems-change environments.
  • Familiarity with philanthropic networks, institutional funding trends, or multi-partner fundraising.
