What We Do

We are seeking an Enterprise Data Management Analyst - Metadata Mgmt/Data Catalog to help mature enterprise data governance capabilities across metadata management, data discovery, data catalog operations, business glossary, lineage, and governed self-service data use.
This role turns governance standards into practical operating practices. You will work with Data Owners, Data Stewards, Data Custodians, technical teams, Risk, Information Security, and governance partners to improve the completeness, accuracy, usability, and trustworthiness of enterprise metadata. The work is hands-on and cross-functional: you will curate metadata, document lineage, improve glossary content, support catalog adoption, and help stakeholders find, understand, trust, and appropriately use governed data assets.
This is an individual contributor role suited for someone who combines strong documentation and facilitation skills with enough technical fluency to interpret data structures, schemas, data dictionaries, source-to-target mappings, reporting dependencies, and system documentation.

What You Will Do

Metadata, catalog, and governance operations

  • Support enterprise metadata management across priority data domains, applications, systems, reports, data products, and Critical Data Elements (CDEs).
  • Help establish and maintain an authoritative view of what data exists, where it resides, how it is defined, who owns it, and how it is used.
  • Administer, support, and improve data catalog and metadata management content, including catalog records, metadata templates, ownership assignments, classifications, glossary links, lineage documentation, stewardship workflows, and catalog usability.
  • Develop practical procedures, playbooks, templates, intake forms, validation checklists, attestation routines, documentation controls, and operating procedures that make governance repeatable.
  • Partner with business and technology stakeholders to validate business metadata, technical metadata, ownership assignments, glossary terms, CDEs, and lineage completeness.
  • Facilitate onboarding of data sources into governance tooling for scanning, metadata ingestion, catalog publication, and lineage capture.

Glossary, lineage, and metadata quality

  • Develop and maintain business glossary content, including terms, definitions, acronyms, synonyms, data-domain alignment, ownership, and relationships to governed data assets.
  • Facilitate working sessions to resolve inconsistent terminology, conflicting definitions, unclear ownership, and documentation gaps.
  • Document, validate, and maintain lineage for critical data flows, including source-to-target movement, transformations, downstream consumption, reporting dependencies, and business use.
  • Support metadata quality controls by reviewing completeness, consistency, timeliness, ownership, glossary alignment, lineage coverage, and catalog usability.
  • Coordinate review workflows, document discrepancies, escalate unresolved gaps, and help establish sustainable metadata refresh practices.

Stakeholder enablement and reporting

  • Enable federated stewardship by helping Data Owners, Data Stewards, and Data Custodians understand and execute their metadata responsibilities.
  • Prepare operational metrics and reporting for catalog coverage, metadata completeness, glossary coverage, lineage coverage, steward validation, issue aging, adoption, and usage trends.
  • Support governance forums, leadership updates, audit support, risk reviews, and program performance tracking with clear, stakeholder-ready materials.
  • Collaborate across business, technology, analytics, architecture, risk, audit, security, and governance teams to drive alignment without direct authority.

What You Will Bring

  • Bachelor's degree in information systems, computer science, data management, information management, business analytics, library/information science, engineering, or a related field, or equivalent practical experience.
  • 5+ years of experience in metadata management, data cataloging, data governance, enterprise data management, data stewardship, business glossary management, lineage documentation, or closely related work in complex environments.
  • Strong understanding of business metadata, technical metadata, operational metadata, data ownership, stewardship, data domains, CDEs, glossary terms, lineage, and catalog publication.
  • Experience developing procedures, process documentation, operating routines, templates, standards, controls, validation checklists, or governance playbooks.
  • Ability to interpret data structures, schemas, data dictionaries, source-to-target mappings, reporting dependencies, and system documentation.
  • Technical fluency with data architecture, data integration, ETL/ELT concepts, APIs, reporting environments, and metadata ingestion concepts.
  • Strong facilitation, documentation, analytical, stakeholder management, and influencing skills, including the ability to translate technical data concepts into clear business language.
  • Experience producing metrics, KPIs, dashboards, scorecards, status reporting, or operational performance reporting.

Nice to Have

  • Experience with Microsoft Purview, Collibra, Alation, Informatica, Atlan, DataHub, BigID, IBM Knowledge Catalog, or similar data catalog, metadata management, governance, or lineage platforms.
  • Working SQL knowledge and experience reviewing data dictionaries, mappings, BI/reporting metadata, lineage, or catalog completeness.
  • Experience in a regulated or highly controlled environment and familiarity with DAMA-DMBOK, CDMP, ISO/IEC 11179, DCAT, or related metadata and data management standards.
  • Experience supporting adjacent data management areas such as data quality, reference/master data, data architecture, BI governance, privacy, security, risk, audit, or regulatory readiness.
