AI Summary

This visionary leader will orchestrate the development of a next-generation, AI-native EMR product, focusing on strategic autonomy, product synergy, and championing the integration of AI tools to modernize the software development lifecycle. Key duties include overseeing AI-native product delivery, resolving complex engineering bottlenecks, managing third-party resources, and cultivating leadership within the engineering organization.

Who We Are Looking For

The Senior Director of Engineering is a visionary leader responsible for orchestrating the development of a next-generation, AI-native EMR product. With a strong engineering background and high technical acumen, this leader works in close partnership with Architecture and Product teams to enforce technical standards, solve complex engineering challenges, and drive rigorous project delivery while ensuring the integrity of the product vision. This individual excels at navigating high complexity, coordinating large-scale dependencies, and ensuring architectural consistency across both internal and third-party engineering resources. The primary focus is on cross-team collaboration, high-level resource planning, and relentless project execution to ensure this product becomes a market leader.  Crucially, this leader will drive the organizational transformation of our engineering practices, integrating AI-driven automation into the SDLC to evolve team structures and maximize development velocity.

What You’ll Be Doing As A Part of Our Team

Strategic Leadership & Technical Orchestration

  • Strategic Autonomy: Function with high autonomy to align engineering execution with the overall company vision, driving major technological advancements and high-level resource planning.
  • Product Synergy: Partner closely with Product Management to synchronize the definition and delivery of core features, ensuring that technical service APIs and AI orchestration are developed in lockstep with clinical workflows and user experience milestones.
  • SDLC Transformation & AI Adoption: Champion the internal integration of AI engineering tools (e.g., coding assistants, automated testing generation) to modernize the software development lifecycle. Proactively evolve team topology and work allocation models to capitalize on efficiencies gained through AI-augmented engineering workflows.
  • Architectural Partnership: Collaborate closely with the Architecture team to translate high-level reference architectures into actionable development plans, ensuring all work products adhere to established technical standards.
  • AI-Native Product Delivery: Oversee the engineering of a foundational data model and service API layer specifically designed to power streamlined, agentic AI workflows and next-generation UI experiences.
  • Engineering Excellence: Exercise high-level technical judgment to resolve complex engineering bottlenecks and drive issue resolution without the need for hands-on code development.

Operational Oversight & Execution

  • Vendor & Resource Management: Direct and hold accountable significant third-party development resources to ensure external contributions meet quality bars and delivery milestones.
  • Dependency & Risk Management: Identify and mitigate risks across multiple workstreams; resolve complex cross-product dependencies and ensure strategic consistency.
  • Performance Analytics: Analyze complex metrics to identify strategic trends and implement large-scale performance improvement plans, reporting progress directly to executive leadership.
  • Leadership Cultivation: Develop and mentor Engineering Directors and Managers, fostering leadership development and ensuring effective talent management across the engineering organization.

What You Should Have to Qualify

  • Education: Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, or a related field.
  • Professional Experience: 13–15 years of progressive engineering experience, with a proven track record of leading high-complexity product builds and managing multi-disciplinary teams.
  • Technical Acumen: Sufficient technical depth to engage effectively with Architects and Principal Engineers on AI-native design patterns, API strategy, and scalable data models.
  • Engineering Operations Evolution: Experience leading engineering organizations through operational shifts or digital transformation. Demonstrated ability to forecast and implement changes in team structure and resource allocation as AI tools reduce toil and accelerate the SDLC.
  • AI/ML Strategic Perspective: A high-level understanding of the modern AI ecosystem—including LLM orchestration and agentic workflows—sufficient to evaluate technical trade-offs, scalability, and the impact of AI architectural choices on the end-user clinical experience.
  • Execution Mastery: Demonstrated experience managing large-scale, third-party development partners to accelerate time-to-market without sacrificing architectural integrity.
  • Leadership Traits: A natural ability to navigate organizational complexity, align stakeholders, and drive a culture of "quality by design."

Ideally, You Would Also Have These

  • Domain Expertise: Experience within the Healthcare/EMR landscape, specifically understanding the clinical workflows and compliance requirements (HIPAA, FHIR) relevant to Physical Therapy.
  • Greenfield Success: Experience taking a product from early-stage architectural design to market-dominant scale.

Culture is at our Core

  • Service: Create Raving Fans
  • Accountability: F Up; Own Up
  • Attitude: Possess True Grit
  • Personality: Be Minty
  • Work Ethic: Be Rock Solid
  • Community Outreach: Give Back
  • Health and Wellness: Live Better
  • Resource Efficiency: Do Más With Menos
