The Position:

The position of Digital Learning Technologist is responsible for the design, build, configuration, maintenance, and quality assurance of high-quality digital learning environments across Milpark’s learning systems and platforms. The role plays a critical part in enabling excellent academic staff and student experience by ensuring that course pages, assessments, templates, engagement tools, dates, workflows, and system integrations are accurately built, technically sound, and aligned to institutional and academic requirements.

 

Reporting to the Academic Manager: Digital Learning Systems, this role combines strong technical capability with a service-oriented approach to supporting the effective delivery of teaching and learning in the digital environment. The Digital Learning Technologist works across the Virtual Learning Environment (VLE), Student Information System (SIS), and associated educational technologies to ensure that integrated components function effectively and that course delivery is supported by well-structured, reliable, and student-friendly digital spaces.

 

The role requires a high level of attention to detail, a commitment to quality, and a strong understanding of how different digital systems, platforms, data structures, and academic requirements interact to support the student lifecycle and learning experience. The incumbent is expected to build trusted working relationships with academic staff, project teams, IT teams, and other internal stakeholders in order to deliver consistent, accurate, and high-quality outputs.

 

The Digital Learning Technologist is required to have/develop a strong understanding of Milpark’s digital learning ecosystem, including platform capabilities, integrations, workflows, and quality requirements. The incumbent must also be familiar with institutional policies, academic requirements, and configuration standards that impact course rollout, digital assessment setup, and system support. This role may also include mentoring new team members where applicable to ensure that high standards of service delivery and technical quality are consistently maintained. 


Key Responsibilities:

Overall:

  • Perform any duties and accept responsibility as assigned by leadership from time to time, provided this fall within the scope of the Educational Technology team.
  • Demonstrate flexibility and adaptability in response to changing operational and academic requirements.
  • Manage multiple digital learning tasks simultaneously while ensuring deadlines, service standards, and quality expectations are met.
  • Demonstrate strong organisational skills, time management, and the ability to prioritise effectively in a deadline-driven environment.
  • Communicate proactively, professionally, and consistently with stakeholders where these interactions affect workflows, project delivery, or quality outcomes.
  • Participate in the development and refinement of departmental and interdepartmental checklists, workflows, templates, standards, and quality controls.
  • Adhere to established workflow processes, legislation, policies, procedures, and institutional quality standards to safeguard Milpark and promote operational efficiency.
  • Contribute to data clean-up, validation, and quality assurance activities as required.
  • Demonstrate a strong service ethic and commitment to supporting academic staff and enhancing the student experience through high-quality digital delivery.
  • Maintain a strong focus on quality of output, technical correctness, consistency, and attention to detail in all aspects of course and assessment build.


Course and Assessment Design, Build and Quality Assurance:

  • Build and configure course pages in Canvas or the relevant VLE in line with approved institutional templates, standards, and academic requirements.
  • Translate approved academic and operational requirements into accurate, functional, and student-friendly course builds within the LMS.
  • Configure digital assessments within the LMS, including assignments, quizzes, discussions, submission settings, gradebook structures, dates, release conditions, and related assessment components.
  • Ensure that assessment setup is technically accurate and aligned to approved schedules, module requirements, and quality standards.
  • Embed student engagement tools and activities within course pages in ways that support student participation, clarity, and a positive learning experience.
  • Ensure that all course templates are correctly implemented and maintained, and that any changes to templates are applied consistently and accurately across relevant modules.
  • Conduct detailed quality assurance checks on course pages, assessments, links, dates, settings, availability rules, gradebook setup, and associated digital content before release to staff and students.
  • Test course functionality and digital assessment components to identify and resolve errors, omissions, or inconsistencies prior to go-live.
  • Maintain high standards of usability, consistency, and technical correctness across all digitally enabled courses.
  • Support the continuous improvement of course builds and digital assessment implementation by identifying opportunities to improve quality, clarity, efficiency, and student usability.


System maintenance, provisioning, integration and configuration 

  • Administer and support the integration of data between the Student Information System (SIS), the Virtual Learning Environment (VLE), and other relevant digital learning platforms.
  • Manage the configuration of new programmes and modules in SAM and/or other institutional systems in accordance with approved workflows, timelines, and quality standards.
  • Ensure that all required information is obtained, validated, and accurately captured prior to the commencement of each academic cycle.
  • Monitor data flows and system relationships to ensure the reliability, integrity, and accuracy of digital learning data across integrated platforms.
  • Troubleshoot and escalate integration issues where required, working collaboratively with IT and other relevant stakeholders to resolve system-related challenges.
  • Manage annual configuration and provisioning requirements for programmes and modules across all faculties.
  • Update digital records, configurations, dates, and access permissions in order to maintain data integrity, operational accuracy, and platform security.
  • Support the ongoing housekeeping of systems, including the editing of dates, pricing, venues, module information, and related configuration elements where relevant to the role.
  • Manage website-linked and system-generated reports connected to SAM and related digital learning systems, where applicable.
  • Ensure that student and course data remain accurate and current for reporting, operational continuity, and quality assurance purposes.


Digital Learning Platform management and support

  • Oversee the day-to-day maintenance and effective functioning of the VLE and associated digital learning tools relevant to the role.
  • Ensure that learning platforms are accessible, reliable, user-friendly, and configured in ways that support effective teaching, assessment, and student engagement.
  • Troubleshoot and resolve platform-related issues that affect course delivery, assessment access, course page functionality, or user experience.
  • Respond to internal staff and student queries via the ticketing system and other approved support channels in a timely, professional, and service-oriented manner.
  • Maintain strong working knowledge of platform functionality, institutional templates, workflow dependencies, and integrated system components.
  • Support the technical implementation of enhancements, upgrades, and improvements to digital learning platforms where required.
  • Contribute to the development and maintenance of support documentation, user guidance, and internal process notes relevant to digital learning systems and course build standards.
  • Ensure that all learning platform outputs demonstrate attention to detail, consistency, and a strong commitment to quality.


Collaboration with Project and IT Teams

  • Work closely with academic staff to ensure that approved course structures, assessments, and engagement requirements are effectively implemented within the LMS.
  • Support academic staff by translating approved module requirements into technically correct, well-structured, and user-friendly digital learning environments.
  • Build productive working relationships with internal stakeholders in Academic Operations, Registrar, IT, project teams, and other support areas.
  • Participate in testing, piloting, and implementation activities relating to new tools, platform improvements, integrations, and workflow enhancements.
  • Collaborate with IT and system stakeholders to identify and resolve issues affecting digital learning delivery.
  • Contribute to the continuous improvement of institutional digital learning practices by identifying recurring issues, quality risks, and opportunities for improvement.
  • Share knowledge and support the development of colleagues within the team where appropriate.

Requirements:

Education:

  • A Bachelor’s degree (at minimum) or a postgraduate degree (preferred) in one of the following or related fields:
    • Educational Technology
    • Information Technology
    • Computer Science
    • Instructional Technology
    • Education with a focus on Technology Integration
    • Platform specific certifications (Moodle/Canvas/Blackboard/D2L)
    • IT Support certifications (IT Fundamentals/IT Support)

 

Experience:

  • Minimum of 4–5 years’ relevant experience in digital learning, learning technology, LMS administration, course build, educational technology support, or a closely related environment.
  • Demonstrated experience in building and maintaining course pages within an LMS, preferably Canvas.
  • Demonstrated experience in configuring digital assessments within an LMS, including assignments, quizzes, gradebook settings, dates, and release conditions.
  • Experience embedding student engagement tools and activities within the LMS to support effective course delivery and student participation.
  • Experience working with integrated digital environments, including the relationship between the LMS, SIS, and associated platforms.
  • Experience in a higher education institution or similarly complex learning environment will be strongly advantageous.
  • Experience supporting academic or operational stakeholders in a digital learning context will be advantageous.
  • Experience in quality assurance, pre-launch checking, testing, and issue resolution in digital course delivery will be advantageous.


Skills:

  • Advanced computer literacy, particularly in Microsoft applications, is essential.
  • Strong technical proficiency in digital learning tools, educational software, and learning management systems is essential.
  • Demonstrated experience administering and configuring Virtual Learning Environments is essential.
  • Strong understanding of LMS course architecture, course page build, and digital assessment configuration is essential.
  • Ability to interpret approved academic requirements and translate them into accurate and effective LMS builds is essential.
  • Strong analytical, troubleshooting, and problem-solving skills are essential.
  • Strong attention to detail and the ability to maintain quality and accuracy across high-volume configuration work is essential.
  • Familiarity with data management and the importance of data accuracy in integrated learning systems is essential.
  • Understanding of system integrations between LMS, SIS, and related platforms is strongly advantageous.
  • Basic coding skills such as HTML, CSS, or Javascript will be advantageous.
  • Understanding of accessibility, usability, and student-centred digital design principles will be advantageous.
  • Strong organisational ability and task management skills are essential.
