JOB SUMMARY
The Senior Creative Designer is a senior-level, hands-on designer responsible for creating innovative retail environments, fixtures, displays, and branded experiences for many of Outform's Consumer Electronics clients across the West Coast.
This role combines industrial design, retail design, experience design, visualization, and strategic thinking to create compelling physical retail solutions that achieve both shopper and commercial objectives. The ideal candidate is a strong designer who develops thoughtful creative concepts supported by clear design rationale and confidently communicates those ideas to clients and internal teams.
Working closely with Creative, Strategy, Sales, Engineering, Program Management, and Production, this individual transforms business objectives, shopper insights, retailer requirements, and emerging technologies into manufacturable retail experiences that elevate brands and drive results.
DIRECT REPORTS
This position has no direct reports. The Senior Creative Designer is expected to mentor junior designers, contribute to creative reviews, and provide design guidance across cross-functional project teams.
SCOPE & ACCOUNTABILITY
- Lead the creative development of retail displays, fixtures, branded environments, and shopper experiences from concept through production.
- Serve as a trusted client-facing design partner for many of Outform's Consumer Electronics clients.
- Translate business objectives, shopper insights, retailer requirements, and brand strategies into compelling physical retail experiences.
- Develop innovative concepts supported by thoughtful design rationale and commercial awareness.
- Balance creativity with manufacturability, cost, durability, timeline, and production requirements.
- Contribute to new business opportunities through concept development, presentations, workshops, and design storytelling.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES
- Lead concept development for temporary, semi-permanent, and permanent retail environments from initial ideation through final design.
- Create high-quality concept sketches, industrial design studies, CAD models, renderings, presentation visuals, and design documentation.
- Develop retail experiences that integrate physical environments with digital technologies and connected retail solutions where appropriate.
- Present concepts confidently to clients, clearly articulating the strategic and creative rationale behind design recommendations.
- Thoughtfully guide clients toward stronger creative solutions while balancing brand objectives, shopper needs, and commercial realities.
- Produce presentation-quality materials supporting client meetings, workshops, proposals, and business development activities.
- Collaborate closely with Strategy, Sales, Engineering, Production, and Program Management to ensure concepts remain commercially viable and manufacturable.
- Apply strong knowledge of materials, fabrication methods, manufacturing processes, retail fixtures, and production techniques throughout the design process.
- Participate in prototype reviews, sample evaluations, value engineering discussions, and production handoffs.
- Stay current with retail trends, consumer electronics, shopper behavior, emerging retail technologies, AI-assisted creative workflows, and evolving experience design best practices.
- Travel as required for client meetings, workshops, store visits, prototype reviews, trade shows, and industry events.

QUALIFICATIONS
- Bachelor's degree in Industrial Design or a closely related discipline strongly preferred.
- Candidates with exceptional expertise developed through extensive retail fixture, retail environment, and experience design will also be considered.
- 7+ years designing retail fixtures, displays, branded environments, experiential activations, or physical retail experiences.
- Retail experience is highly preferred. Exceptional candidates from adjacent industrial design disciplines may be considered if they demonstrate strong applicability to physical retail environments.
- Outstanding portfolio demonstrating sophisticated retail design, industrial design thinking, experience design, and client-facing presentations.
- Advanced proficiency using industry-standard 3D CAD, visualization, and rendering tools.
- Strong proficiency in Adobe Creative Suite.
- Deep understanding of materials, manufacturing processes, fabrication methods, and production constraints.
- Excellent verbal, written, and visual communication skills.
- Comfortable presenting directly to senior client stakeholders.
- Experience supporting RFPs, workshops, concept development, and business pitches.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS
Working conditions are in a normal office environment. While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to walk, sit, and stand, using hands to handle, finger, or feel objects, tools, or controls. Occasionally, the employee must crouch or kneel. The employee must occasionally exert or lift up to 20 pounds. Successful performance requires good eyesight with or without corrective lenses. Requires long periods of time working at a computer and includes phone work. Travel up to 30% of the time may be required for client meetings, workshops, site visits, prototype reviews, trade shows, and events and is an essential function of this position.
