About Altery Connect EU B.V.
Altery Connect EU B.V. is a Dutch crypto-asset service provider applicant seeking authorisation under the Markets in Crypto-Assets Regulation (MiCAR). As part of the international Altery Group, we are building our local governance, compliance and control framework in preparation for the launch of our regulated European operations.
We are looking for an experienced Senior Compliance Manager to provide dedicated, hands-on, day-to-day second-line compliance capacity for our Dutch entity.
The Role
You will act as deputy to the Head of Compliance and help ensure that the local Compliance function operates effectively, independently and continuously. You will also work closely with the MLRO on financial-crime matters while preserving the MLRO’s statutory responsibilities and decision-making authority.
The role reports directly to the local Head of Compliance, with a functional reporting line to Group Compliance. This Group relationship supports professional standards, methodology, knowledge sharing and consolidated reporting, but does not override local accountability, independent judgement or the interests and regulatory obligations of Altery Connect EU B.V.
This is a Netherlands-based second-line role with no executive or Supervisory Board responsibilities. The Dutch entity’s regulatory priorities will take precedence at all times.
What You’ll Be Doing
Compliance Monitoring and Regulatory Advice
- Support the annual risk-based Compliance plan and perform second-line monitoring, testing and assurance across regulated activities, controls and operating processes.
- Maintain Compliance policies, procedures and registers, identify control gaps, track remediation and assess regulatory developments from the AFM, DNB, ESMA and EBA.
- Review and challenge customer communications, marketing materials, product and process changes, outsourcing arrangements, complaints, conflicts of interest, market-abuse controls, prudential governance and DORA compliance.
Financial Crime and MLRO Support
- Support the MLRO in maintaining the AML/CFT, sanctions and financial-crime framework, including relevant business-wide risk assessments.
- Provide second-line oversight and quality assurance of CDD/EDD, sanctions screening, transaction monitoring, Travel Rule and blockchain-analytics controls.
- Review higher-risk cases and potential regulatory reports while ensuring that final FIU-NL reporting decisions remain with the MLRO.
Fraud Risk Oversight
- Provide independent second-line oversight and challenge of fraud controls, thresholds, rules and escalation arrangements.
- Review material fraud incidents, trends, root causes and remediation plans from a Compliance and regulatory perspective.
- Monitor the effectiveness of remediation while remaining independent from first-line fraud operations and routine investigations.
Governance and Regulatory Engagement
- Prepare Compliance reports, risk assessments and management information for the Head of Compliance and relevant governing bodies.
- Support regulatory reporting, information requests, meetings, inspections and thematic reviews involving the AFM, DNB, FIU-NL and other relevant authorities.
- Track findings from Compliance monitoring, audits and regulatory reviews, maintain clear records and escalate material issues promptly and independently.
Training and Compliance Culture
- Provide practical day-to-day guidance to employees and management on the application of regulatory requirements.
- Design and deliver training on MiCAR, AML/CFT, sanctions, fraud, conflicts of interest, market abuse and DORA.
- Promote a strong local Compliance culture and clear ownership of regulatory obligations across the business.
What We’re Looking For
- At least 3–5 years of relevant experience in second-line regulatory Compliance, financial crime or risk oversight within a regulated financial institution, fintech, payments or crypto-asset business.
- Practical experience with Compliance monitoring, control testing, findings, remediation tracking and independent challenge of business and operational teams.
- Strong knowledge of MiCAR and the EU crypto-asset regulatory environment, together with working knowledge of the Wwft, Dutch Sanctions Act, AML/CFT requirements and the Transfer of Funds Regulation.
- Understanding of crypto-asset products, transaction flows and related conduct, financial-crime and operational risks.
- Experience preparing clear Compliance reporting for senior management, governing bodies or regulators and working within a Group framework while preserving local entity accountability.
- Strong analytical, organisational and stakeholder-management skills, independent judgement and confidence in escalating material concerns.
- Fluency in English is required; Dutch is strongly preferred.
- Ability to work primarily from the Netherlands and attend meetings in Amsterdam, with an existing right to work in the Netherlands or the ability to obtain it before the agreed start date.
Experience with a CASP, VASP, crypto exchange or digital-asset custodian, blockchain analytics, Travel Rule solutions, DORA or EU regulatory authorities would be a strong advantage. A relevant degree or professional qualification in Compliance, AML, law, finance, risk or financial regulation is welcomed but not mandatory.
The successful candidate will be subject to background screening, suitability assessment and conflict-of-interest disclosure. Previous fit-and-proper or suitability approval by an EU/EEA authority is an advantage but is not a prerequisite.
