At Raymond Storage Concepts (RSC), we’re looking for a Senior Application Engineer who can take complex automation challenges and turn them into smart, practical, high-performing solutions.
This is an opportunity to play a key technical role in the design and delivery of sophisticated material handling systems — including conveyor, sortation, pallet handling, AS/RS, robotics, and other automated technologies. You’ll work across the entire solution lifecycle, from understanding a customer’s operation and developing the initial concept to detailed engineering, proposal development, project execution, and integration support.
Just as importantly, you’ll bring the experience to challenge ideas, guide technical decisions, mentor other engineers, and help raise the bar for how we design and deliver engineered solutions.

Where You'll Work
Preference will be given to candidates located in the Cincinnati, Columbus, or Louisville areas who are able to work onsite from one of our office locations. Remote candidates located outside of these areas may also be considered based on business needs.
Travel to customer facilities will be required as needed to evaluate operations, document existing conditions, and support project development and execution.
What You'll Do
As a Senior Application Engineer, you’ll serve as a senior technical resource within our Systems team, partnering with Sales, Engineering, customers, suppliers, subcontractors, and other stakeholders to develop automation solutions that solve complex operational challenges.
You will:

Lead solution design for complex conveyor, sortation, pallet handling, AS/RS, robotic, and integrated material handling systems.

Evaluate customer requirements and determine the appropriate technologies based on throughput, storage capacity, product characteristics, operational requirements, and business objectives.

Develop detailed mechanical drawings for proposals and projects, including plan views, elevations, installation drawings, throughput models, and system layouts.

Create comprehensive technical proposals, including system concepts, equipment specifications, scope documentation, supplier and subcontractor pricing, and detailed cost estimates.

Use strong technical writing skills to translate complex engineering concepts into clear, accurate, and professional proposals, scopes of work, descriptions of operation, technical documentation, and customer-facing materials.

Develop detailed Descriptions of Operation and other system documentation for use by customer operations, maintenance teams, integrators, and project stakeholders.

Prepare and support customer presentations that clearly communicate system concepts, equipment specifications, throughput capabilities, and recommended solutions.

Generate system bills of material and spare-parts lists and coordinate the ordering of equipment and project services.

Establish and maintain strong relationships with equipment suppliers and subcontractors to support solution development, pricing, technical requirements, and delivery schedules.

Participate in customer site visits to document existing conditions and identify opportunities to improve, expand, automate, or upgrade existing systems.

Lead technical reviews of proposals and projects to help ensure engineering quality, accuracy, feasibility, and consistency.

Serve as a mentor and technical resource for other team members and lead internal technical training when needed.

Support projects from early concept development through engineering, execution, integration, and final handoff.
What You'll Bring
This is a Senior-level engineering role, and we’re looking for someone with significant hands-on experience designing and developing complex automated material handling solutions.
Required Qualifications

Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering or a related engineering/technical field, or an equivalent combination of education and relevant experience.

15+ years of experience in the material handling industry.
-
5+ years of experience creating material handling system drawings using AutoCAD or equivalent software.
-
15+ years of experience with automated sortation technologies, including technologies such as shoe sorters, cross-belt sorters, tilt-tray sorters, and MDR transfers.

5+ years of experience with automated pallet-handling equipment, including conveyors, transfers, turntables, and lifts.
-
5+ years of experience developing complex technical proposals and cost estimates.

Strong technical writing skills, with the ability to create clear, detailed, and technically accurate proposals, scopes, descriptions of operation, system documentation, and other technical materials.

Proficiency with Microsoft Office, including Word, Excel, Outlook, and PowerPoint.

Strong knowledge of applicable industrial safety standards, including ANSI, OSHA, RIA, CEMA, and/or ISO standards.

Strong understanding of industrial control concepts, including PLCs, VFDs, WCS/WMS, HMIs, Ethernet/IP, ProfiNet, and Modbus.

Ability to read and interpret electrical drawings, including single-line diagrams, I/O drawings, and panel layouts.
Even Better If You Have

Experience with AS/RS mechanical design, including shuttles, cranes, lifts, racking interfaces, and load-handling devices.

Experience integrating robotics and autonomous technologies, including AMRs, robotic picking, palletizing, and depalletizing.

Proficiency with 3D CAD software such as SolidWorks, Inventor, Creo, or equivalent.

Experience with manufacturing or warehouse process optimization.

Experience with Hytrol conveyors and HyCAD.

Experience with rack and storage systems.

- Residence in Greater Cincinnati or Columbus, OH areas
- High school diploma, general education degree (GED), and/or technical school
- Minimum of one to three years' related experience in the lift truck industry preferred
- General mechanical aptitude
- Strong customer service focus and communication skills
