Position Summary
We are seeking an experienced SBA Loan Underwriter to join our growing lending team. This position is responsible for providing accurate credit analysis, risk assessment, and underwriting support for SBA and USDA loan requests. The ideal candidate will possess strong analytical skills, in-depth knowledge of SBA lending requirements, and the ability to work collaboratively with lenders, management, and customers to deliver timely credit decisions and exceptional service.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
Analyze and underwrite SBA and USDA loan requests in accordance with Bank policies, procedures, and regulatory requirements.
Maintain a thorough understanding of SBA Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs), lending regulations, and industry best practices.
Prepare comprehensive credit analyses, including:
Credit memorandums
Financial statement spreads
Cash flow analysis
Global cash flow analysis
Collateral analysis
Assessment of strengths and risk mitigants
Credit facility eligibility determinations
Collaborate with Business Development Officers (BDOs), lending staff, and management throughout the underwriting process.
Participate in loan vetting, credit approval discussions, and committee presentations as needed.
Manage a pipeline consisting of new loan requests and loan modification requests.
Review and clear underwriting conditions in a timely and accurate manner.
Request and review required financial documentation from borrowers and guarantors.
Communicate effectively with borrowers, lenders, management, and third-party service providers throughout the lending process.
Deliver exceptional customer service to both internal and external customers.
Coordinate underwriting workflow between the Bank and lender service providers as needed.
Attend training programs, seminars, conferences, and industry events to maintain expertise in SBA and USDA lending.
Complete all required compliance and regulatory training, including Bank Secrecy Act (BSA) and Anti-Money Laundering (AML) training.
Perform other duties and special projects as assigned.
Qualifications
Required Qualifications
Bachelor's degree in Finance, Accounting, Business Administration, or a related field.
Minimum of three (3) years of SBA 7(a) loan underwriting experience.
Thorough knowledge of SBA lending regulations, procedures, and underwriting practices.
Strong financial analysis and credit underwriting skills.
Proficiency in Microsoft Word and Excel.
Excellent verbal, written, and presentation communication skills.
Strong interpersonal skills and the ability to work collaboratively across departments.
Ability to manage multiple priorities while meeting deadlines.
Commitment to ongoing professional development and compliance training requirements.
Preferred Qualifications
Five (5) or more years of SBA 7(a) underwriting experience.
USDA Business & Industry (B&I) loan underwriting experience.
Experience utilizing Moody's credit analysis software.
Formal credit training through a financial institution or recognized program.
Demonstrated ability to manage a high-volume underwriting pipeline while maintaining quality and accuracy.
