EY helps utilities organizations transform their operations through innovative SAP solutions that improve efficiency, enhance customer experiences, and support regulatory compliance. We work with clients across the utility value chain, helping them navigate complex business and technology transformations from strategy through execution.
As an SAP IS-U Data Conversion Senior Consultant, you will support data migration activities for SAP IS-U implementations and transformations. You will work closely with business stakeholders, functional teams, and technical data teams to analyze legacy data, define conversion requirements, and support data migration from source systems into SAP IS-U. You will own assigned data objects from source analysis and mapping through mock conversions, reconciliation, cutover, and post-load validation.
Your key responsibilities
In this role, you will work with clients and internal teams to deliver SAP IS-U data conversion solutions. You will apply your functional knowledge, analytical skills, and utility industry experience to help ensure utility data is accurately transformed, migrated, validated, and reconciled throughout the implementation lifecycle. This position may require regular travel to meet client needs. Key responsibilities include:
- Analyzing legacy data structures, source extracts, business rules, and target SAP IS-U requirements for assigned master and transactional data objects.
- Defining and maintaining source-to-target mappings, transformation rules, value translations, validation rules, and load dependencies in collaboration with business and functional owners.
- Supporting the conversion of utility data, including business partners, contract accounts, contracts, premises, connection objects, installations, devices, meter readings, billing history, and FI-CA balances, as applicable to project scope.
- Performing data profiling and supporting data cleansing, mock conversions, data loads, validation, and reconciliation using approved migration tools.
- Using SAP IS-U Migration Workbench/EMIGALL or other approved conversion tools, as applicable, and coordinating staging and ETL activities with technical data teams.
- Analyzing load errors, rejected records, duplicate or incomplete data, referential-integrity issues, and sequencing dependencies and driving conversion defects through resolution.
- Developing and maintaining object-level counts, control totals, balance checks, exception reports, and supporting evidence for data conversion validation and sign-off.
- Supporting multiple conversion cycles and mock loads to validate mapping, transformation, sequencing, data quality, and load results.
- Coordinating data dependencies across SAP IS-U Customer Service, Device Management, meter reading, Billing and Invoicing, FI-CA, and connected systems.
- Preparing functional conversion documentation, source-to-target mappings, validation rules, test scenarios, reconciliation results, defect documentation, and other project deliverables.
- Supporting cutover rehearsals, production conversion activities, post-load validation, issue triage, and post-go-live stabilization.
- Collaborating with client stakeholders, business users, functional teams, technical data teams, and project leadership to resolve conversion issues and support timely decisions.
- Providing knowledge transfer and functional guidance to client teams and junior project team members.
Skills and attributes for success
To thrive in this role, you will need a combination of SAP IS-U functional knowledge, utility industry experience, and hands-on data conversion experience. Your ability to understand complex data relationships, identify data-quality issues, and collaborate across functional and technical teams will be important to delivering successful outcomes.
- Strong functional knowledge of SAP IS-U and the utility meter-to-cash process.
- Hands-on experience with SAP IS-U data conversion activities, including source-to-target mapping, data profiling, transformation rules, validation, mock loads, reconciliation, and defect resolution.
- Understanding of the relationships and dependencies among SAP IS-U customer, premise, installation, device, meter-reading, billing, and FI-CA data.
- Ability to analyze legacy data structures and translate source-system data into SAP IS-U target requirements.
- Understanding of data sequencing, referential integrity, data quality, reconciliation, and load dependencies within utility implementations.
- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills, including the ability to investigate conversion errors and identify root causes.
- Ability to collaborate effectively with business, functional, technical, ETL, and integration teams.
- Strong written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to explain conversion requirements, data issues, and solution decisions to business and technology stakeholders.
- Ability to manage assigned data objects, deliverables, dependencies, risks, and priorities in a client-service environment.
To qualify for the role, you must have
- A bachelor’s degree.
- Typically, no less than 3 to 4 years of SAP IS-U or SAP Utilities experience, including at least 3 years of hands-on experience supporting SAP IS-U data conversion or migration activities.
- Hands-on experience delivering functional requirements, solution design, testing, and production support in a utility environment.
- Experience with source-to-target mapping, data profiling, transformation rules, value translations, validation rules, mock loads, reconciliation, and data-defect resolution.
- Experience supporting the conversion of SAP IS-U master and/or transactional data, such as business partners, contract accounts, contracts, premises, connection objects, installations, devices, meter readings, billing history, or FI-CA balances.
- Understanding of the dependencies among SAP IS-U customer, premise, installation, device, meter-reading, billing, and FI-CA data.
- Understanding of meter-to-cash processes and the dependencies between SAP IS-U functions and connected systems.
- Experience analyzing conversion results, load errors, rejected records, data-quality issues, referential-integrity issues, and sequencing dependencies.
- Experience performing or supporting data validation and reconciliation using record counts, control totals, balance checks, and exception reporting.
- Experience preparing source-to-target mappings, functional conversion requirements, validation documentation, test scenarios, reconciliation results, and other project documentation.
- Experience supporting mock conversions, cutover rehearsals, production loads, post-load validation, defect resolution, and production stabilization.
- Experience working with business users, functional teams, technical data teams, and project stakeholders to resolve data conversion and cross-workstream issues.
- Strong analytical, communication, problem-solving, and stakeholder-management skills.
- A flexibility and willingness to travel to meet client needs; travel is estimated at 40-60%.

- Experience supporting data migration for large-scale utility implementations or transformations.
- Experience with high-volume utility master and transactional data.
- Experience supporting complex data reconciliation, conversion controls, and business sign-off processes.
- Experience coordinating data conversion activities across Customer Service, Device Management, Billing and Invoicing, FI-CA, and related utility workstreams.
