Retail Catalog Optimization Specialist

VitalSource®, is hiring a Retail Catalog Optimization Specialist to contribute to our Customer Success team. 

The Retail Catalog Optimization Specialist improves the completeness, accuracy, discoverability, and commercial readiness of products across VitalSource retail catalogs. This role combines catalog operations, metadata optimization, demand analysis, and partner outreach to ensure products are available and positioned effectively across retail and partner channels. The ideal candidate is detail-oriented, proactive, and comfortable working across metadata, retail systems, reporting, and external partner communication.

Key Responsibilities:  

Catalog Monitoring & Integrity 

• Monitor retail demand signals and catalog health to identify gaps in availability, rights, pricing, metadata, or content files
• Develop and maintain dashboards and workflows to track products entering and exiting retail catalogs; surface issues impacting visibility, availability, or customer experience

Metadata & Discoverability 

• Identify and resolve metadata issues affecting product discoverability, feed delivery, and search placement across Google and retail partners
• Optimize metadata to improve onsite search and SEO performance, exercising independent judgment on approach and prioritization

Partner Outreach & Content Acquisition 

• Coordinate with publishers, providers, and internal teams to secure required rights, pricing, or content needed to fulfill retail demand
• Draft and send targeted outreach to publishers and partners regarding catalog gaps, metadata corrections, and content needs

Cross-Functional Collaboration 

• Partner with Product, Sales, and Customer Success to improve catalog quality and operational efficiency
• Develop scalable cataloging standards, monitoring processes, and metadata best practices
• Build deep familiarity with how data and inventory flow through the product landscape

Market & Commercial Analysis 

• Research competitive pricing to ensure products are positioned effectively in local markets; identify coverage gaps and new opportunities
• Track market trends and surface emerging insights and competitive intelligence to the organization
• Analyze catalog data to identify and quantify sales opportunities, including patterns that indicate cross-sell or upsell potential

Required Qualifications:

• 2–4 years of experience in catalog operations, ecommerce, publishing, or a related field
• Experience working with metadata, ecommerce catalogs, publishing systems, or retail product data
• Proficiency with spreadsheets, dashboards, and reporting tools (e.g., Looker)
• Strong attention to detail; able to identify patterns and inconsistencies across large datasets
• Excellent written communication skills, especially for external partner outreach
• Ability to balance operational execution with process improvement and proactive problem-solving
• Demonstrates curiosity and willingness to apply AI tooling as appropriate for the role; a demonstrated ability to learn and grow with current tooling is strongly preferred
• BA/BS in Marketing, Communications, or a related field, or equivalent experience

Preferred Skills:

• Working knowledge of SEO and SEO tools
• Working knowledge of Claude or other AI tools
• Familiarity with ONIX, publishing metadata, retail feeds, or digital content ecosystems
• Salesforce experience
• Background in higher education or edtech

Salary Range: 76,000-82,000
