About the Work Unit:
The research mission of the Center for Research Development and Scholarship (CRDS) is to transform the disciple of nursing through research, practice and partnerships. To contribute to the social advancement and health of Tennessee, the nation, and the world. The Center achieves its mission by fostering a scholarly environment and offering services relevant to our researchers while considering the future directions and needs of science and other resources within the VU system. It works closely to compliment the services provided by VUMC VICTR.
Key Functions and Expected Performance:
Community Outreach and Engagement
- Develop and continuously refine community engagement and connections with Chinese (Simplified and Tradition), Japanese, or Korean community organizations, businesses, and other community partners to support research recruitment efforts.
- Cultivate strategic partnerships by participating in community outreach events and in-person engagement activities to expand research participation and strengthen community trust.
- Serve as the liaison between the research team and community partners to build and maintain relationships with community leaders, organizations, and other stakeholders.
Research Recruitment Strategy and Participant Engagement
- Develop, implement and evaluate culturally and linguistically appropriate recruitment campaigns to disseminate study information through culturally relevant online platforms, community forums or other social media channels. Chinese-American - WhatsApp, Instagram, etc.; Japanese American - LINE; Korean American - KakaoTalk
- Translate study-related materials, including recruitment announcements, informed consent documents, and other participant-facing communications, into Chinese (Simplified and Traditional), Japanese, or Korean to ensure linguistic accuracy and cultural appropriateness.
- Distribute printed and electronic recruitment materials to community organizations, including churches, senior centers, cultural associations, and community events.
- Develop and maintain recruitment partnerships with community organizations, healthcare systems, advocacy groups and cultural institutions.
- Monitor recruitment inquires, community engagement activities and stakeholder feedback, providing regular updates and data-informed recommendations to the research team.
Research Operations and Scientific Contribution
- Serve as the subject matter expert for participant development, implementation and refinement of participant recruitment strategies through collaboration with the research team.
- Develop, maintain and analyze recruitment records, logs, and develop progress reports to monitor enrollment, trends and support decision making.
- Collaborate with the research team to ensure all research activities are conducted in accordance with institutional policies, research protocols, regulatory requirements and ethical standards.
Supervisory Relationships:
This position does not have supervisory responsibility and reports administratively and functionally to the Assistant Dean.
Education and Certifications:
- A Bachelor's Degree in Biology or a related scientific field of study is required.
- A Master's Degree in Biology or other related scientific field of study is preferred.
Experience and Skills:
- 5-7 years of relevant nursing or research experience preferred.
- Ability to communicate complex research concepts and findings to interdisciplinary teams.
- Strong written skills for preparing reports, documentation and research summaries.
- Strong foundation in scientifically rigorous methodologies.
- Strong analytical thinking skills that can troubleshoot data, workflow or study related challenges to independently solve and escalate when needed.
