By creating and publicly sharing map visualizations, data and analysis tools, we aim to enable scientific research and transform the way our ocean is managed. What we are looking for

Global Fishing Watch is seeking proposals from qualified individual contractors to manage our Google Ad Grants account ($10,000/month) and a separate paid Google Ads budget ($1,000/month), helping increase our online visibility, drive traffic to our website and further advance our mission.

Description of work

Under the guidance of the senior website manager, the contractor will be responsible for maximizing the impact of Global Fishing Watch’s online presence through both the $10,000/month Google Ad Grant and a $1,000/month paid advertising budget. This involves developing and implementing effective advertising strategies to drive traffic and engagement, ensuring compliance with Google Ad Grants policies, and optimizing campaigns to achieve the organization's goals. The successful candidate will conduct keyword research, create compelling ad copy and monitor performance metrics to enhance the effectiveness of the ad campaigns. Additionally, this individual is expected to stay updated on industry trends, Google Ads policies and best practices to continually improve the organization’s online visibility and impact. The Google Ads contractor will play a crucial role in leveraging advertising resources to support the mission and objectives of Global Fishing Watch.

About the team

The contractor will support an internationally distributed communications team, and will report to the senior website manager located in the Eastern time zone of the United States. The team and organization primarily use Slack for communication.

  • Establish/maintain trust and credibility with new and existing audiences via research, analysis, datasets, APIs, products and tools.
  • Inform and influence both the technical audience and policy/advocacy audiences.
  • Connect our services to what audiences need.
  • Share achievements, success stories and advocate for change through impactful storytelling. 

Our target audiences are:

  • Decision makers: inform and influence ocean governance policy. 
  • Technical experts: encourage the adoption and use of our products/data in management and research applications.
  • Secondary audiences: funders, media, general public.

Our website is primarily used in four ways:

  • Promoting the role of transparency in advancing ocean governance.
  • Interacting with map visualization products for analysis of vessel-based human activity at sea.
  • Promoting scientific collaboration and publishing of impactful research.
  • Sharing public datasets of human activity at sea.

Detailed Responsibilities 

Google Ad Grants and Google Ads - Management

  • Create and manage effective Google Ads campaigns in both English and Spanish to promote the organization, profile its work and maximize the impact of the grant.
  • Develop and implement strategies to increase website traffic, engagement and conversions.
  • Conduct keyword research, develop ad copy and implement ongoing optimizations to represent Global Fishing Watch’s work and ensure the best possible performance of ads.
  • Provide monthly performance reports and insights, demonstrating the effectiveness of the campaigns and suggesting improvements.
  • Stay up-to-date with Google Ads policies and best practices to ensure compliance and maximize results.

Google Ad Grants and Google Ads - Deliverables

  • Campaign setup and optimization: Create and manage campaigns aligned with the organization's goals and mission, including ad groups, keywords, ad copy and targeting settings.
  • Keyword research and selection: Conduct comprehensive keyword research to identify relevant and high-impact keywords, optimizing for maximum grant utilization and impact.
  • Ad copywriting and testing: Develop compelling ad copies, headlines and descriptions tailored to attract clicks and engagement. Continually test and optimize ad variations for better performance.
  • Bid management and budget allocation: Monitor and adjust bids to ensure efficient spending of the grant budget, maximizing the impact within the allocated limit.
  • Performance monitoring and reporting: Regularly track campaign performance metrics such as click-through rates, conversions and other key performance indicators. Provide detailed monthly reports highlighting achievements and areas for improvement.
  • Conversion tracking and optimization: Optimize conversion tracking to measure the impact of ad campaigns. Use this data to refine targeting and messaging.
  • Compliance and policy adherence: Ensure compliance with Google Ad Grants policies, including adherence to guidelines related to the grant's terms and conditions, keeping the account in good standing.
  • Strategic recommendations: Provide strategic counsel and recommendations for improving the overall effectiveness of the Google Ad Grants account based on data analysis and industry best practices.
  • Communication and collaboration: Maintain open communication channels, collaborating with the senior website manager and other communications team members as needed.

Scope and timeline

  • Expected start date: September 1, 2026. 
  • The initial contract term is three months. Upon mutual written agreement, the contract may be renewed for subsequent 6- or 12-month periods.
  • Workload is expected to be up to 10 hours per week. 

Vendor qualifications requirements

  • Must be bilingual in English and Spanish, demonstrating native or professional-level fluency in both verbal and written communications. 
  • Possesses the operational capacity to manage projects and maintain seamless communication across various time zones.
  • Demonstrates a proven track record of successfully managing both Google Ad Grants and traditional paid Google Ads accounts.

The proposal should consist of:

  • A cover letter explaining the provider’s interest and qualification for the consultancy.
  • Outline of how the provider intends to fulfill the responsibilities outlined in the previous section.
  • Hourly rate for the services outlined in the scope of work in addition to any associated costs in their delivery.
  • Resume/CV.
  • Examples of past work.
