Junior Project Manager

Remote | Hybrid option: Melbourne, FL or Ellicott City, MD

Salary Range: $100,000 - $115,000

The Role

Above Group is looking for a Junior Project Manager to support our Senior Project Managers in delivering AE and cross-discipline Mechanical, Electrical, Plumbing, and Fire Protection (MEP/FP) projects. You will help keep assigned projects on scope, on schedule, and on budget, and be a dependable point of contact between clients, contractors, sub-consultants, and our internal design teams. Your work will directly reflect the quality and vision of our company standards.

This is a growth role with real responsibility: you will manage approximately $0.5M–$1.5M in annual billings, contribute to proposals and business development, and help shape the standards and processes our project teams work by. We rely on junior project managers who work well independently and collaboratively, communicate clearly, and are committed to excellence in every aspect of their work.

What You’ll Do

  • Assist in managing scope, schedule, and budget for assigned projects, including coordination with external design sub-consultants and internal design teams; manage approximately $0.5M–$1.5M in annual billings
  • Interpret and contribute to Basis of Design documents, design criteria documents, reports, and other technical written documents
  • Maintain clear communication between clients, contractors, and senior project managers on all active projects
  • Conduct quality control reviews of drawings, specifications, and narratives under the guidance of senior staff, and identify and escalate any oversights for review and correction
  • Support business development, including project interviews, technical writing for proposals, and fee proposals, under the direction of senior staff
  • Assist with contract coordination for sub-consultants and support the approval and distribution process
  • Maintain project schedules and calendars with key design deadlines, and keep project records, job site visit logs, and timelines current
  • Ensure RFI and submittal response times meet or exceed company standards, and keep records of all communications and work items discussed with contractors
  • Maintain up-to-date documentation and records of applicable standards and codes, and support the development of and adherence to company-wide standards and processes
  • Submit your own timesheets on time and help monitor team compliance
  • Represent the company in marketing and networking activities, including industry events and conferences, as requested

What you Bring to the Role

  • Bachelor’s degree in engineering, architecture, or a related field preferred
  • Minimum of 5-10 years of post-degree experience working for an MEP engineering firm or an AE firm
  • Professional Engineer (PE) license or Registered Architect (AIA)
  • Proficient in managing workflow for MEP/FP designers and engineers in the AEC industry
  • Knowledge of Revit and AutoCAD, and of applying WBS and EVM frameworks
  • Familiarity with applying PMI methodologies
  • Proficient with Microsoft Office (Outlook, Word, Excel) and Microsoft Project
  • Exceptional written, oral, interpersonal, and presentation skills; able to edit design specifications and respond to RFIs using information from project documents
  • Strong work ethic; able to work independently/self-motivated, as well as in a collaborative team setting, highly organized, and detail oriented
  • Strong project management, strategic planning, and problem-solving skills, with the ability to multi-task
  • Strong time management with flexibility to adapt to changing schedules and duties
  • High levels of confidentiality, integrity, and dependability
  • U.S. citizenship or U.S. permanent residency
  • Willingness to travel up to 20% for site visits and client meetings

Nice to have: PMI PMP certification, or actively pursuing it.
