About CDMS
CDMS has helped California businesses stay compliant with environmental, health and safety (EHS) regulations for more than 35 years. Our clients are mostly manufacturers, metal finishers, warehouses and transportation companies with 15 to 300 employees. We run their compliance programs: hazardous materials and hazardous waste, stormwater, air permits, spill prevention, Cal/OSHA programs and employee training. Our field team works out of offices in Pleasanton (San Francisco Bay Area) and Long Beach (Los Angeles area), supported by a remote technical team.
The Role
We are hiring Remote EHS Project Managers based in the Philippines to run the engine behind our clients' compliance programs: the planning, the regulatory work and the coordination that keep California factories and warehouses compliant and their people safe.
Our local EHS specialists and field staff in California work on site at client facilities: site visits, inspections, sampling and in-person training. You will do and manage everything that can be done remotely: the regulatory analysis, the filings and reports, the compliance calendars and the data. You will plan and coordinate the work our local EHS specialists and field staff perform, turn their field notes into finished deliverables, and make sure nothing a client owes a regulator is late.
This is a project management role with real technical depth. Client contact stays with our California team, and you run the work behind it: planning it, doing it and coordinating the people who do it in the field. Our Senior Project Managers handle knowledge management, project reviews and our most complex projects. You will work with them on reviews and help decide how our remote EHS work gets done. You will report to our CEO.
Why You Will Want This Job
- You run real projects from your first months. You plan the work, do the technical analysis, coordinate the field team and deliver the finished product.
- Your work has visible impact. The plans and filings you prepare keep chemicals stored safely, stormwater clean and workers trained at real facilities across California.
- You will master some of the toughest EHS rules in the world. California's environmental and safety requirements are among the most demanding anywhere, and expertise in them is valued by employers everywhere.
- Your ideas shape how we work. We are a close team of about 17 people. You work directly with our CEO and help design the templates, checklists and tools our remote practice runs on.
- A tech-forward team. We use cloud software, AI tools and automation to cut repetitive work, and we want people who will push that further.
- Stable, long-term work. Full time, paid twice a month in U.S. dollars, with a team that values continuity: members of our remote team have been with us for three years and counting.
- Mentors who know the work. Our Senior Project Managers review your projects and share what they have learned from years of California compliance work.
What You Will Do
Manage remote project delivery
- Keep track of each assigned client's permits, plans, deadlines and open items.
- Build and run compliance calendars so every filing, renewal, inspection and training happens on time.
- Prepare clear status updates and questions for the California team to take to clients.
- Prepare client-ready deliverables and bring them to Senior Project Manager review.
Do the remote technical work
- Prepare and update Hazardous Materials Business Plans in CERS (California Environmental Reporting System), including chemical inventories, site maps and emergency plans.
- Prepare hazardous waste program documents and reports, and review manifests and records.
- Prepare stormwater documents (SWPPPs, annual reports in SMARTS) and track sampling results against limits.
- Prepare spill prevention (SPCC) plans, air permit applications and renewals, emissions calculations and recordkeeping.
- Read regulations and agency guidance, and summarize what applies to a given facility.
Coordinate local EHS specialists and field staff
- Plan and schedule site work with our local EHS specialists and field staff: what to inspect, collect and photograph. Assign their tasks, track them to completion and follow up on anything outstanding.
- Turn field notes, photos and data into finished, client-ready reports.
- Review drafts from junior and remote team members before they go to clients.
Run the projects
- Scope tasks, track hours and budgets, and keep project records current in our project management system (Accelo).
- Flag risks early: a slipping deadline, an agency notice, a scope change.
- Improve how we work: templates, checklists, SOPs and automations that make the remote team faster and more accurate.
What You Bring
- 5 or more years in EHS, environmental, engineering or quality assurance (QA/QC) roles that included regulatory or compliance work.
- Project management experience: at least 2 years running projects with deadlines, budgets and several stakeholders.
- Tech forward with strong data skills. You pick up new software fast and look for ways to automate repetitive work. You are advanced in Excel or Google Sheets (formulas, lookups, pivot tables) for chemical inventories, emissions calculations and sampling data, and comfortable using cloud tools and AI assistants for research, drafting and analysis.
- Client service experience: you have supported external clients or internal customers and know what responsive, accurate service looks like.
- Hands-on regulatory work: you have prepared permits, plans, regulatory reports, audits or compliance documentation yourself, for example EHS programs, environmental permits, ISO management systems or GMP/QA documentation.
- Quick to learn new regulations. You can read a regulation you have never seen and work out what it requires of a specific facility. We will teach you the U.S. and California programs we work with.
- A bachelor's degree in engineering (environmental, chemical, civil or industrial), environmental science, chemistry, industrial safety or a related field.
- Excellent written and spoken English. You will write client-ready reports and work daily with our U.S. team.
- Strong organization. You run many deadlines across many projects without dropping any.
- A reliable home office: stable high-speed internet, a backup power or connection plan, a quiet space for video calls.
Nice to Have
- Philippine professional credentials such as DENR-accredited Pollution Control Officer, DOLE-accredited Safety Officer (SO2 or higher, with BOSH training), or a PRC license (Chemical Engineer, Chemist, Sanitary Engineer or Environmental Planner)
- ISO 14001, ISO 45001 or ISO 9001 internal or lead auditor training
- Experience with California systems such as CERS or SMARTS, or with California agencies (CUPAs, DTSC, Water Boards, Air Districts, Cal/OSHA)
- Experience at a U.S. EHS consulting firm or supporting U.S. clients remotely
- Experience supervising or reviewing the work of junior staff
- Familiarity with project management or CRM tools (Accelo or similar), and with AutoCAD or GIS for site maps
