FAR.AI is a non-profit AI research institute dedicated to ensuring advanced AI is safe and beneficial for everyone. We work at the intersection of machine learning, safety research, and policy, supporting a global community of researchers and practitioners. At FAR.AI, we believe in thoughtful, inclusive, and scalable operations that empower our team and partners to do their best work.
Since our founding in July 2022, we've grown quickly to 40+ staff, producing over 30+ influential academic papers, and established leading AI Safety events for research and international cooperation. Our work is recognized globally, with publications at premier venues and features in the Financial Times, Nature News, Forbes, and MIT Technology Review.
We drive practical change through red-teaming with frontier model developers and government institutes. Most recently, we discovered major issues with Anthropic’s latest model the same day it was released, and worked with OpenAI to safeguard their latest model. Additionally, we help steer and grow the AI safety field through developing research roadmaps with renowned researchers such as Yoshua Bengio. We also operate FAR.Labs, an AI safety-focused co-working space in Berkeley, housing 40 members, as well as support the community through targeted grants to technical researchers.
We're seeking a Recruiting Coordinator to support recruiting coordination and new hire onboarding. As FAR.AI continues to grow, you'll own the operational details that make our hiring process feel seamless for candidates and our onboarding experience feel warm and well-prepared for new team members. From scheduling interviews and setting up process automations to procuring laptops and coordinating onsite visits, you'll be the person who makes things happen behind the scenes. This is an ideal role for someone early in recruiting or people operations who is highly organized, takes initiative, and genuinely cares about the candidate and employee experience in a mission-driven research environment.
Own end-to-end recruiting coordination: Job postings, Ashby setup and automation, interview and assessment scheduling, work trial logistics, onsite coordination, etc
Manage the contracting process for work trials, including internal and external coordination across stakeholders
Support new hire onboarding operations, including scheduling onboarding meetings, equipment, creating new hire info sheets, setting up Slack channels, and coordinating with hiring managers and onboarding buddies
Maintain and improve recruiting and onboarding templates, toolkits, and process documentation
You are a detail-oriented and proactive recruiting or people operations professional who finds genuine satisfaction in keeping complex processes running smoothly. You bring a low-ego, high-ownership mindset to your work and follow through on the small things that others might let slip.
You're excited to work in a research-driven, mission-focused environment and thrive in roles where no two days look exactly the same. You communicate clearly across functions, build trust quickly, and can hold many moving pieces at once without losing the thread. You understand that people operations work is fundamentally human, and you bring that care to every interaction, whether you're coordinating a candidate's onsite or making sure a new hire's laptop arrives on their first day.
1–3 years of experience in recruiting or people coordination
Ashby experience, including scheduling requisition set-up, workflows, and automations
Strong calendar management and scheduling skills, with experience coordinating across multiple time zones and stakeholders
Exceptional attention to detail and follow-through (you anticipate failure-modes and catch things before they fall through the cracks!)
Clear, professional written communication; comfortable corresponding with candidates, new hires, and internal partners
Ability to manage multiple concurrent workstreams without close supervision
Prior experience in early-mid stage startup and/or fast-paced environment
Experience supporting onboarding programs or owning new hire logistics (equipment procurement, swag management, etc.)
You will be a full-time employee of FAR.AI, a 501(c)(3) research non-profit.
Location: In-person in Berkeley (preferred), or US remote
Hours: 40 hours/week
Compensation: $80-$100K/year depending on experience/location. We will also pay for work-related travel and equipment expenses, and offer catered lunch and dinner at our office in Berkeley.
Interview process: A short task test, a hiring manager call, and a work trial.
