About VeilSun
VeilSun delivers value-based innovation for AI and Low-Code driven custom applications. We provide immediate value for complex solutions while building for long-term scalability. We begin with a customized Technology Blueprint to fully understand our customers’ business objectives, then design and deliver applications that drive quick ROI and strong user engagement.
We specialize in QuickBase development and consulting, cloud integration, and leading low-code/no-code platforms, including Mendix and Microsoft Power Apps. We’ve helped hundreds of growing companies achieve their business goals through a scalable technology vision.
Purpose of this Position
VeilSun's Project Manager is the client's primary delivery partner — the person who owns the relationship, drives the engagement, and ensures that every project reflects the precision, partnership, and craft that define the VeilSun Way. This role is more than a coordinator of tasks and timelines. It is a trusted consulting role that requires the confidence to guide clients through complex decisions, the boldness to redirect poor ones, and the discipline to keep engagements moving with clarity and purpose.
The Project Manager is assigned to Quickbase, Mendix, and Technical Resources engagements and works closely with Technical Leads, Solution Consultants, and web development resources to deliver outcomes that clients value and VeilSun is proud of. They bring strong client engagement skills and delivery instincts to every project — and they understand that the best project management is nearly invisible to the client, because everything is handled before it becomes a problem.
Business Outcomes
Success in this role means projects are delivered well, clients feel genuinely partnered with, and VeilSun's reputation grows stronger with every engagement. You will be measured on:
- Delivery performance — projects are delivered on time, within scope, and to the standard clients expect; risks are surfaced and managed before they become issues
- Client satisfaction — clients feel heard, informed, and confident throughout the engagement; communication is proactive, clear, and never a source of surprise
- Scope and budget discipline — scope is managed with rigor; changes are identified, communicated, and handled through proper channels
- Methodology adherence — VeilSun's delivery standards, tooling, and reporting requirements are followed consistently on every engagement
- Team collaboration — technical resources assigned to your projects have clear direction, are unblocked, and are set up to do their best work
Core Responsibilities
Engagement Leadership & Client Management
- Own the client relationship on assigned engagements — be the consistent, trusted presence that clients rely on throughout the project lifecycle
- Lead project kickoffs, discovery sessions, and ongoing client meetings with confidence and preparation; set expectations clearly from day one
- Act as a trusted consultant to assigned clients — understand their business well enough to offer perspective that goes beyond task management, and be bold enough to redirect clients away from poor technology or workflow decisions
- Communicate proactively with all stakeholders: surface risks and tradeoffs early, present options clearly, and drive decisions without letting uncertainty stall progress
- Manage client expectations with honesty and confidence — deliver difficult news directly, with context and a path forward
- Actively work toward ODP conversion on assigned project accounts — identify clients with recurring needs and strong satisfaction, nurture the relationship toward a retainer model, and partner with the Client Success Manager to facilitate the commercial transition when the timing is right
- Keep the CSM informed on project client health, satisfaction signals, and relationship status so that the client relationship is actively managed between project milestones
- Surface expansion opportunities within assigned client relationships to the Senior PM, PMO Manager, or CSM as appropriate
Project Planning & Execution
- Develop and maintain detailed project plans, timelines, and resource schedules for assigned engagements
- Achieve and maintain radical alignment with clients on requirements before development begins — ensure that scope is genuinely understood and agreed upon, not assumed
- Track project progress against plan on a weekly basis — scope, budget, timeline, and client satisfaction — and take corrective action when variances emerge
- Manage risks and issues proactively: identify them early, document them clearly, and drive them to resolution without waiting for escalation
- Coordinate project resources across Technical Leads, Solution Consultants, and web development team members to ensure that project objectives are met efficiently
Scope & Budget Management
- Serve as the scope gatekeeper on assigned engagements — identify scope changes early, communicate their implications clearly, and manage them through proper channels
- Monitor project budgets and flag variances to the PMO Manager before they become problems
- Ensure that estimates are accurate and that commitments made to clients are commitments the team can keep
Reporting & Documentation
- Maintain accurate, current project data in VeilSun's delivery tooling (Jira, Confluence, or equivalent) as a professional standard
- Produce and deliver bi-weekly project status reports consistent with VeilSun's reporting templates — accurate, comprehensive, and actionable
- Conduct project retrospectives and contribute lessons learned to the PMO's continuous improvement process
Team Collaboration
- Provide clear direction and context to technical resources on assigned projects — ensure they understand what they are building, why it matters, and what success looks like
- Remove blockers quickly; do not let technical resources sit on uncertainty or wait for information they need to move forward
- Partner with Technical Leads to ensure that technical delivery aligns with client expectations and that scope, timeline, and quality are collectively owned
Decision Authority
You have authority to:
- Make day-to-day delivery decisions on assigned engagements, including client communication, task prioritization, and issue resolution
- Hold or redirect scope on active projects in coordination with the Technical Lead and PMO Manager
- Escalate project risks, client issues, or resource conflicts to the PMO Manager or Senior Project Manager
- Recommend changes to project plans, timelines, or resourcing when conditions on the ground require it
Desired Behaviors and Attributes
- Trusted Consultant Approaches every client relationship as a long-term partnership. Invests in understanding the client's business, goals, and constraints — not just the requirements of the current project. Is confident enough to challenge a client's direction when it is not in their best interest, and skilled enough to do it in a way that strengthens trust rather than damaging it.
- Radical Alignment Does not let projects proceed on assumed or unvalidated requirements. Drives alignment with rigor and patience before development begins and re-validates continuously throughout the engagement. Understands that ambiguity tolerated at the start becomes rework — and client frustration — at the end.
- Proactive Communication Keeps every stakeholder informed without being prompted. Surfaces risks, tradeoffs, and decisions early — never lets a problem age before raising it. Communicates with clarity and confidence across all levels of the client organization.
- Delivery Ownership Treats every project as their own. Owns the outcome, not just the process. Does not wait for someone else to solve a problem — identifies it, owns it, and drives it to resolution. Keeps commitments and flags early when something is at risk.
- Boldness Says what needs to be said — to clients, to teammates, and to leadership. Does not hedge when a situation requires directness. Addresses hard topics with confidence and professionalism, including redirecting a client from a decision that is not in their best interest.
- Collaborative Instinct Works well with technical resources, practice managers, and peers. Creates clarity for the people around them — when they are involved, people know what they own, what the next step is, and why it matters. Earns trust through consistency and follow-through.
- Organizational Discipline Manages multiple concurrent engagements without losing clarity. Keeps project data current and accurate. Treats information hygiene as a professional responsibility. Operates with urgency without creating noise.
Failure Patterns We Avoid
- Proceeding through ambiguity — unvalidated requirements and unresolved alignment are delivery risks that must be addressed, not tolerated
- Managing tasks instead of outcomes — a Project Manager owns the engagement's success, not just the calendar
- Avoiding difficult conversations with clients — redirecting a client from a poor decision is an act of partnership, not conflict
- Letting scope drift without surfacing it — scope changes must be identified, communicated, and managed; silent absorption is not acceptable
- Reacting to problems instead of anticipating them — proactive risk management is a core competency of this role
- Keeping leadership in the dark — escalate early, escalate clearly, and escalate to the right person
Preferred Capabilities
- 4+ years of project management experience in a professional services, consulting, or technology delivery environment
- Demonstrated experience managing client relationships directly — comfortable as the primary client-facing presence on an engagement
- PMP certification preferred; Agile certification (CSM or equivalent) is a plus
- Familiarity with Quickbase, Mendix, or low-code platforms is a meaningful plus — sufficient to engage credibly in technical conversations without being the technical expert
- Experience with delivery tooling including Jira, Confluence, or equivalent
- Strong written and verbal communication skills across technical and non-technical audiences
- Ability to manage multiple concurrent projects without losing clarity or momentum
- Demonstrated experience managing scope, budget, and timeline on technology delivery projects
- Comfortable working in a fast-paced environment where priorities shift and ambiguity is the norm
