DURATION: 4-6 months with possibility of extension

BACKGROUND AND PURPOSE OF THE ASSIGNMENT

WFP first entered China in 1979. Now, we carry out innovative pilot projects to improve smallholder farmers’ livelihoods and preschool children’s nutrition status, build inclusive and resilience of food system, raise funds to help people in need and share China’s development experience with other developing countries to achieve Sustainable Development Goal 2: Zero Hunger.

The purpose of this assignment is to provide comprehensive support to the Capacity & Knowledge Unit in developing and editing the various knowledge products at the WFP South-South Knowledge Sharing Platform and Cloud School (WFP China COE South-South Cooperation Knowledge Sharing Platform).

  

DUTY AND RESPONSIBILITIES

The Programme Policy Volunteer, under the guidance and supervision of Chief of Capacity & Knowledge Unit of WFP China, will carry out the following duties and responsibilities:

1.Conduct a review of relevant research and academic institutions in China and identify suitable knowledge products with potential for dissemination through the WFP South-South Knowledge Sharing Platform and Cloud School.

2.Translate a wide range of knowledge products into English in a timely and professional manner.

3.Contribute to the re-structuring and enhancement of the WFP South-South Knowledge Sharing Platform and Cloud School.

4.Support the planning and delivery of online and offline events and campaigns of the Unit.

5.Perform additional duties as required.

EXPECTED OUTCOMES

1.Develop a clear mapping of institutions and a prioritized list of high-quality materials sourced from China’s research and academic institutions with potential for dissemination through the WFP South-South Knowledge Sharing Platform and Cloud School.

2.Provide timely, accurate English translations of knowledge products, ensuring clarity, consistency, and accessibility for global audiences.

3.Contribute to the restructuring and enhancement of the Knowledge Sharing Platform and Cloud School, resulting in improved content organization, navigation, and user experience.

4.Support the planning and execution of online and offline events and campaigns by preparing communication materials, coordinating partners, and facilitating knowledge-sharing activities.

5.Carry out additional tasks as needed with professionalism and flexibility, contributing to efficient team operations and responsive delivery of Unit priorities.

QUALIFICATIONS & EXPERIENCE REQUIRED:

•Education: Majors in social sciences, agricultural and food system disciplines, or other closely related fields.

•Experiences: Candidates with experience working in other UN agencies are preferred. Proven experience in research, knowledge dissemination and agricultural and food-system related work. Demonstrated experience in English translation or bilingual communication.

•Skills and Competencies: Proficiency at Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook) required for work. Strong commitment and dedication to UN/WFP’s mission; willingness to listen and learn; Demonstrate respect and professionalism at workplace; Ability to work in multi-cultural environment; Ability to meet deadlines and maintain food communication with colleagues; Compliance with the rules and regulations of the organisation and the team.

•Language: Excellent communication skills (written and oral) in English and Chinese. Other UN official working language is a merit.
