Job Role
We are seeking a highly experienced Principal Engineer (IC6) to lead the design, architecture, and end-to-end delivery of large-scale, high-performance backend systems. This role requires deep expertise in system architecture, development, and cross-functional leadership, with significant influence across multiple teams and products.
As a Principal Engineer, you will operate at an organizational level, driving technical strategy, solving complex problems, and enabling teams to build scalable, reliable, and secure systems. You will partner with engineering, product, sales, support, and architecture teams to ensure alignment and successful execution of high-impact initiatives.

Roles & Responsibilities

  • Own and drive end-to-end architecture and delivery of critical systems across multiple teams
  • Define and evolve microservices architecture, platform design, and engineering standards across the organization
  • Lead complex technical initiatives and POCs to de-risk solutions and guide strategic decisions
  • Act as a technical leader and decision-maker, driving alignment across engineering, product, sales, support, and architecture teams
  • Design and guide implementation of highly scalable, distributed systems with strong focus on reliability, performance, and security
  • Architect and optimize data systems (PostgreSQL) and drive cloud-native solutions on AWS/GCP
  • Establish and enforce best practices across CI/CD, DevSecOps, observability, security, and resiliency
  • Drive high engineering standards, including code quality, design patterns, API contracts, and reusable frameworks
  • Lead and participate in code reviews, ensuring maintainable, secure, and production-grade code across teams
  • Contribute hands-on by building critical components, POCs, and performance-sensitive systems.
  • Mentor and elevate engineers, acting as a force multiplier across teams
  • Identify technical risks, drive long-term scalability and platform improvements
  • Own and resolve ambiguous, high-impact, business-critical problems
  • Lead architectural reviews, governance, and cross-team delivery execution
  • Drive refactoring, testability, and debugging strategies to improve system quality and reliability.
  • Leverage AI-assisted development tools and LLMs to improve developer productivity, code quality, and engineering efficiency
  • Drive adoption of AI-driven and specification-based development practices, translating requirements into code, APIs, and test artifacts
  • Responsibility to adhere to set internal controls.
Experience and Desired Skills:
  • 16 - 20 years of experience in software engineering, with significant experience in architecture and large-scale system design, running production software, with at least the last several as the person accountable for a product's architecture, not just a component.
  • Proven track record of owning and delivering complex, distributed systems across multiple teams
  • Expert-level knowledge of:
    • Designing GraphQL APIs / Rest APIs at scale: schema evolution, auth directives, pagination, N+1 avoidance, subscriptions.
    • Microservices architecture
    • Designing background-job and scheduling systems: queues, locking, idempotency, fairness, failure recovery.
    • Application security depth: OAuth and SSO flows, JWT handling, CSP and security headers, secrets management, supply-chain hygiene.
  • Database: schema design for multi-tenant data, indexing, partitioning, views, query plans, migration strategy against live customer databases. Experience with Prisma or a comparable ORM and clear judgement about when to bypass it.
  • Production AWS: ECS or a comparable container platform, RDS, S3, ECR, IAM, and a CI/CD pipeline you have owned end to end. Docker and Compose in daily use.
  • Practical use of LLM APIs in a product, and daily use of AI-assisted coding tools with a clear view of where they help and where they mislead.
  • Strong hands-on ability to prototype, build POCs, and solve complex technical challenges.
  • Experience leading initiatives in Agile/Scrum environments.
  • Excellent communication and stakeholder management skills, with ability to drive alignment across diverse teams.
  • Strong ownership mindset with ability to operate effectively in ambiguous and high-pressure environments.
Nice To Have:
  • RedwoodJS or CedarJS, GraphQL Yoga, Envelop.
  • Prior working experience with MuleSoft Anypoint Platform, Azure Integration Services or other integration platforms.
  • Static analysis, SAST, OWASP and CWE, or compliance frameworks such as SOC 2 and ISO 27001.
