About the Role

Reporting to the Board of Directors, the President will provide overall leadership and direction for Canada Wood Group. The successful candidate will bring strong executive judgment, excellent relationship-building skills, and the ability to lead in a complex, multi-stakeholder environment.

This role requires a strategic and collaborative leader who can balance long-term vision with strong operational execution. The President will work closely with the Board, staff, partners, and external stakeholders to support the organization’s priorities and ensure effective delivery of its mandate.

Key Responsibilities

The President will be responsible for:

  • Providing strategic leadership and overall direction for the organization
  • Working closely with the Board of Directors to support governance, planning, and decision-making
  • Representing Canada Wood Group with members, partners, government, industry stakeholders, and other external audiences
  • Building and maintaining strong relationships across the sector
  • Leading organizational planning, priority-setting, budgeting, and reporting
  • Overseeing the delivery of programs, initiatives, and organizational commitments
  • Supporting staff, consultants, partners, or other contributors involved in the organization’s work
  • Ensuring strong financial, operational, and governance practices
  • Identifying opportunities to strengthen Canada Wood Group’s impact, profile, and partnerships
  • Acting as a credible and effective spokesperson for the organization

Qualifications and Experience

The ideal candidate will bring:

  • Senior leadership experience in a relevant organization, association, industry, government, non-profit, or related environment
  • Experience working with a Board of Directors, committees, senior stakeholders, or member-based organizations
  • Strong knowledge of the forest products sector, wood products, international markets, trade, industry relations, or a related area
  • Proven ability to lead strategy, manage complexity, and deliver results
  • Strong relationship-building and stakeholder engagement skills
  • Excellent communication, presentation, and interpersonal skills
  • Financial, operational, and governance experience
  • Sound judgment, political acuity, and the ability to work effectively with a wide range of perspectives
  • A collaborative and practical leadership style
  • Bilingualism in English and French is considered an asset, if applicable
