Summary

We are seeking a Senior Power BI Developer with strong expertise in Power BI, DAX, SQL, data modeling, ETL processes, and Microsoft Azure/Fabric environments. In this role, you will design, develop, and maintain scalable reporting solutions, transforming complex data into interactive dashboards and meaningful business insights.

The ideal candidate will combine strong hands-on development skills with a solid understanding of data pipelines, semantic models, and backend data structures. You will work closely with Data Engineers, Developers, and business stakeholders to build reliable reporting solutions, troubleshoot data and modeling issues, and perform functional and data validation to ensure accuracy across the reporting environment.

Education

• Bachelor’s Degree in Computer Science, Software Engineering, Data Science, Information Technology, or a related technical field.

Professional Experience

• 5+ years of experience in Power BI development, business intelligence, data analytics, or related data-focused roles, with hands-on experience building and maintaining Power BI reporting solutions.

• Strong hands-on experience developing Power BI reports and dashboards, including data visualization, report navigation, filtering, drill-throughs, and interactive reporting experiences.

• Demonstrated expertise with DAX, including creating measures, calculated columns, calculated tables, time-intelligence calculations, and optimizing DAX expressions for reporting requirements.

• Strong experience with SQL for querying, transforming, and validating data from relational and cloud-based data sources.

• Practical experience with ETL/ELT processes and data pipelines, including extracting, transforming, and loading data into reporting environments and troubleshooting data discrepancies.

• Experience designing and maintaining data models, including relationships, dimensions, facts, calculated measures, and semantic models to support scalable Power BI reporting.

• Hands-on experience working within Microsoft Azure and/or Microsoft Fabric ecosystems, including cloud data sources, data pipelines, Lakehouse environments, or related Azure data services.

• Ability to perform basic functional validation and data quality checks on Power BI reports and dashboards, with limited emphasis on formal QA/testing methodologies.

Key Responsibilities

• Develop, maintain, and enhance Power BI dashboards, reports, and semantic models based on business and reporting requirements.

• Build and optimize DAX measures, calculated columns, and other DAX expressions to support business metrics and analytical requirements.

• Design and maintain data models and relationships that support accurate, scalable, and performant Power BI reporting.

• Write and optimize SQL queries to extract, transform, analyze, and validate data from backend data sources.

• Work with ETL/ELT pipelines and data transformation processes to prepare and integrate data for Power BI reporting.

• Connect Power BI to a variety of Azure, Microsoft Fabric, SQL, and other data sources, ensuring reliable data availability for reporting solutions.

• Develop interactive dashboards and reports that effectively communicate KPIs, trends, metrics, and business insights.

• Troubleshoot data, modeling, DAX, and report-level issues and collaborate with Data Engineers, Developers, and business stakeholders to resolve them.

• Perform basic functional and data validation of Power BI solutions to confirm that reports, calculations, filters, and visualizations behave according to requirements.

• Analyze discrepancies between source data and Power BI outputs and assist with identifying whether issues originate from SQL, ETL processes, data models, DAX, or report configuration.

• Participate in requirements discussions and translate business reporting needs into appropriate data models, measures, dashboards, and visualizations.

Required Technical Skills

Strong experience in several of the following areas:

Power BI Development:
Hands-on experience with Power BI Desktop and Power BI Service, dashboard and report development, interactive visualizations, filters, drill-throughs, publishing, and report configuration.

DAX:
Strong experience writing and optimizing DAX measures, calculated columns, calculated tables, time intelligence, and complex business calculations.

SQL & Data Validation:
Strong SQL skills for querying relational databases, transforming data, troubleshooting discrepancies, and validating reporting outputs.

Data Modeling:
Experience with dimensional modeling, fact and dimension tables, relationships, star schemas, semantic models, and designing data structures for Power BI reporting.

ETL/ELT & Data Pipelines:
Experience working with ETL/ELT processes, data transformations, data integration, and troubleshooting pipeline-related data issues.

Azure / Microsoft Fabric:
Practical experience with Microsoft Azure and/or Microsoft Fabric data environments, including services such as Azure Data Factory, Azure SQL, Lakehouse, Dataflows, or related technologies.

Reporting & Analytics:
Experience translating business requirements into KPIs, dashboards, reports, data visualizations, and actionable reporting solutions.

Functional Validation:
Basic experience validating report functionality, data accuracy, calculations, filters, and visual behavior. Formal QA/test case management experience is not the primary focus of this role.

Nice to have

• Hands-on test automation experience using Playwright, Selenium, or similar UI automation frameworks

• Knowledge of automated testing approaches for data integration pipelines and CI/CT practices

• Familiarity with AI-assisted testing or coding tools (e.g., Claude Code, Cursor, GitHub Copilot) for data verification

• Exposure to Azure security protocols, data governance frameworks, or large-scale data migrations to Microsoft Fabric

Soft Skills

• Advanced English proficiency (written and verbal)

• Strong analytical mindset with a habit of investigating data anomalies deeply before escalating

• Excellent documentation skills for creating clear, reproducible, and repeatable test cases and bug reports

• Collaborative mindset with the ability to work closely with Data Engineers, Developers, and Product Stakeholders

• High attention to detail, organizational discipline, and technical ownership over data reliability
