The basic function of the Plant/Transmission Systems Analyst, hereafter referred to as the System Analyst, is to apply engineering principles and technical knowledge to assigned projects and tasks related to NERC Reliability Standard compliance, power system analysis, and client consulting engagements.

 

The System Analyst performs technical reviews and compliance assessments while supporting Certrec clients in maintaining compliance with applicable reliability standards. The System Analyst reports directly to a Supervisor/Manager and works closely with Project Managers to execute client projects, provide technical expertise, and support successful project delivery.

The System Analyst also provides leadership and direction in the following areas:

  • Ensuring that all work products are complete and of high quality.
  • Supporting successful project execution within scope, schedule, and budget.
  • Providing technical support to clients and project teams.
  • Identifying compliance risks and recommending corrective actions.
  • Supporting the development of long-term client relationships.

 

 

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

 

  • The essential functions of the System Analyst include, but are not limited to:
  • Conduct technical assessments and compliance evaluations with limited supervision.
  • Review relay settings and protective relaying programs for compliance with applicable NERC Reliability Standards.
  • Support the analysis and evaluation of relay mis-operations and associated corrective actions.
  • Review inverter and plant controller settings for inverter-based resources and generation facilities.
  • Evaluate facility ratings methodologies, documentation, and supporting calculations.
  • Analyze system operating characteristics and technical documentation supporting compliance programs.
  • Responsible for the development, implementation, and evaluation of client protective relaying programs, instrument transformers, control circuits, and generation interconnection facilities.
  • Evaluate electrical systems, products, components, and applications supporting ONC clients through the application of NERC Reliability Standards, electrical theory, and general engineering principles.
  • Perform evaluations of electrical system and component capabilities, testing methodologies, and testing results.
  • Review maintenance and testing documentation associated with PRC-005 programs.
  • Evaluate facility ratings programs and support documentation associated with FAC-008 requirements.
  • Support compliance evaluations related to PRC-019, PRC-024, PRC-025, and PRC-029 standards.
  • Identify compliance risks, technical deficiencies, and potential reliability concerns and recommend corrective actions.
  • Prepare technical reports, compliance assessments, and client deliverables.
  • Provide technical support during client meetings, workshops, and compliance discussions.
  • Perform peer reviews of technical work products to ensure quality and consistency.
  • Maintain client data, technical records, and supporting documentation.
  • Develop technical procedures, guidance documents, and training materials applicable to client programs.
  • Maintain technical knowledge through continuing education, industry publications, and NERC-related developments.
  • Support Certrec consulting engagements and project activities as assigned.
  • Assist with business development activities by identifying opportunities and supporting client relationships.
  • Maintains professional and technical knowledge by attending educational workshops; reviewing professional publications, and NERC compliance information.
  • Develop procedures and training programs specific to client’s applicability to the NERC Reliability Standards.
  • Performs work in support of Certrec projects or consulting engagements.
  • Perform Business Development during client interfacing. Look for opportunities and establish rapport with clients and build relationships.
  • Keep Business Development group apprised of leads, client intelligence, organization changes, client issues, and other key areas of concern.
  • Complying with all company policies and procedures.

 

 

Experience

  • Required:
    • Two to five (2–5) years of experience in electric utility operations, transmission, generation, renewable energy, engineering consulting, or NERC compliance.
    • Experience supporting technical evaluations, compliance activities, system studies, or protection and control programs.

 

  • Preferred:
    • Experience with inverter-based resources, transmission systems, or renewable generation facilities.
    • Experience supporting NERC compliance programs.

 

Education

  • Required: Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering, Engineering Technology, Power Systems, technical discipline, or a related field; OR Equivalent industry experience.

 

Licensing/Registration/Certification

  • Preferred:
    • Engineer-in-Training (EIT) certification.
    • Professional Engineer (PE) licensure.
    • NERC certification or industry-specific technical certifications.

  • Strong written and verbal communication skills.
  • Ability to communicate technical concepts to technical and non-technical audiences.
  • Ability to independently analyze technical data and supporting documentation.
  • Strong organizational and analytical skills.
  • Ability to manage multiple assignments and priorities.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office applications.
  • Ability to work independently with limited supervision.
  • Ability to work effectively in a team environment.
  • Must comply with all Company policies and confidentiality requirements.

 

Technical Knowledge Expectations

  • Working knowledge of PRC-005 and FAC-008.
  • Working knowledge of PRC-019, PRC-024, PRC-025, and PRC-029.
  • Understanding of protective relaying schemes.
  • Understanding of inverter and plant controller settings.
  • Understanding of facility ratings methodologies.
  • Understanding of system operating characteristics.
  • Knowledge of NERC Reliability Standards applicable to assigned work.

 

Physical Requirements

  • Ability to remain in a stationary position for long periods while working at a computer.
  • Ability to operate a computer and other standard office equipment.
  • Ability to occasionally move about the office as needed, if working on office.

 

TRAVEL

 

This role may require periodic travel to client locations to support meetings, evidence reviews, onsite activities, or project delivery. Travel may include temporary assignments at clients’ facilities to provide consulting services to the company’s clients. Any travel undertaken will follow normal auto and air travel conditions and may involve exposure to varied weather.
