Personal Finance Editor

The Personal Finance Editor shapes and refines Money’s award- winning personal finance content, splitting time between editing (60%) and original writing (40%). Sitting in the department that handles sponsored content requests, this role combines strong editorial judgment and writing skills with an understanding of how content supports audience and business goals. The ideal candidate has experience creating high-quality content for a publisher, agency, or in-house brand team and can work effectively across editorial, business, and external partners.

Success looks like accurate, engaging content that serves readers, maintains Money’s editorial standards, supports business objectives, and performs well across traditional search and AI-powered discovery platforms.

Responsibilities: 

• Shape content strategies that balance audience needs, editorial integrity and sponsor goals. 
• Edit articles, guides, and other personal finance content for clarity, accuracy, tone, and adherence to Money’s editorial standards and sponsor objectives.
• Work directly with internal and external teams to move projects efficiently from brief through publication.
• Write original content covering personal finance topics, translating sponsor goals and product details into engaging, accurate copy.
• Optimize content for discoverability across both traditional search engines, such as Google, and generative AI search and answer engines, such as ChatGPT, Claude, and Perplexity.
• Fact-check financial claims, statistics, and product details to ensure accuracy and compliance with relevant financial regulations and disclosure requirements.
• Manage content timelines and prioritize a mix of editing and writing assignments to meet publishing deadlines.
• Stay current on personal finance trends, search behavior, and AI search developments to inform content strategy.
• Provide feedback and editorial guidance to freelance writers and contributors as needed.
• Among other responsibilities related to the business unit and the position.

Qualifications:

• Bachelor's degree in Journalism, Marketing, or a related field, or equivalent practical experience.
• 5+ years of professional editing and/or writing experience, ideally in a media, publishing, content marketing, or agency environment. 

• Strong command of grammar, style and editorial best practices; working knowledge of personal finance topics such as credit, banking, loans, insurance, and investing; strong understanding of how content is discovered across search engines and AI-driven answer engines, including Google, ChatGPT, Claude and Perplexity; and the ability to balance a workload of roughly 60% editing and 40% writing across multiple projects simultaneously.

This job's annual salary range is $80,000.00 - $100,000.00

The offered salary may vary within the posted range based on factors including, but not limited to, education, skills, experience, training, job responsibilities, and location. Applicants must be available to work Eastern Time hours. Applicants must be authorized to work for any employer in the U.S. We do not currently sponsor or transfer employment visas.
