About your role

After 13 years building an established, well-loved brand across Europe, Fairphone is entering the US market. This role is a rare opportunity to translate a proven, mission-driven brand into the US from the ground up.

You will join the US Commercial team as our first US marketing hire and own all US digital acquisition end-to-end, across paid search, paid social, display and retargeting, and Amazon Ads. Starting from a focused launch budget, you will stand up the US test-and-learn engine, drive efficient demand to our web shop and Amazon, and put a rigorous measurement setup in place to keep the operation data-driven.

You will report to the US General Manager, work with her in a tight operating cadence, and partner closely with our Amsterdam teams, particularly on brand, creative, and the web shop. In the first phase, success means standing up a trusted measurement foundation and a disciplined test-and-learn engine, and finding the audiences and messages that convert, then scaling spend efficiently against the US sales goal. As the US business scales, this role is expected to help shape and grow the US marketing function.

Key Responsibilities & Objectives

  • Translate Fairphone's brand and business strategy into the US paid media strategy, and run an always-on program across the full funnel (touch, tell, sell).
  • Own US digital acquisition strategy and hands-on execution across paid search, paid social, display and retargeting, and Amazon Ads, driving traffic and conversion to Fairphone.com and Amazon.
  • Drive qualified paid traffic to Fairphone.com and Amazon, and partner with the HQ web shop, brand, and product teams on conversion improvements. The web shop and its conversion optimization are owned by HQ, so you focus on demand and efficiency rather than site operations.
  • Set and hit CAC, CPA, and ROAS targets, and allocate budget across channels by return and customer lifetime value.
  • Run a tight performance operating cadence with the US General Manager on a shared campaign dashboard, with more frequent check-ins during launch periods, and turn results into the next round of experiments.
  • Write and own the creative briefs for content creation, and drive a fast brief-to-turnaround loop with creative partners within brand guidelines.
  • Implement global brand and product launches campaign for the US market.
  • Own Amazon Ads performance, working with external agency support.
  • Define the US measurement and reporting you need (GA4, GTM, BigQuery, Looker) together with a data engineer and Commercial Operations, and use it to steer spend, testing, and decisions day to day. You set the requirements and rely on the data; building the pipeline sits with the data engineer.
  • Localize messaging for US audiences using real performance data, and partner with the HQ performance, brand, and web shop teams.

Core Activities

Your Skills & Experience

  • You have demonstrated success owning paid acquisition budgets and hitting CAC and ROAS targets, ideally in DTC e-commerce or consumer hardware.
  • You have hands-on expertise across paid search, paid social, display and retargeting, and Amazon Ads, and you build and optimize campaigns yourself rather than only through an agency.
  • You are effective across the full budget journey: making the hundreds of thousands of a launch budget work hard, then quickly scaling into the millions without losing efficiency.
  • You have worked inside a startup or scale-up, not only large brands, so the pace and resourcefulness of a new-market launch come naturally to you.
  • You are highly data-driven: comfortable working in analytics and tagging tools (GA4, GTM) and BI dashboards, fluent with spreadsheets, and able to turn performance data into clear decisions and testable hypotheses.
  • You know how to structure creative tests, read performance signals without overfitting, and turn learnings into sharper briefs.
  • You are a builder who thrives with ambiguity, lean budgets, and a rapid test-and-learn cadence.
  • You have led or mentored a team, work independently, and are ready to build and grow the US marketing team as the business scales.
  • You have excellent written and verbal communication skills in English, and you thrive in a global environment, collaborating effectively across diverse stakeholders, functions, and cultures, including partners in other time zones.
  • You have experience marketing consumer hardware or physical products, ideally launching a brand or product in a new market.
  • Lifecycle or CRM marketing experience is a plus.

What Fairphone can offer you?

  • The opportunity to create an impact on the electronics industry around the world.
  • A diverse work environment full of international, passionate, warm-hearted team members.
  • Competitive base salary aligned with the US market.
  • Health, dental, and vision insurance.
  • 401(k) retirement plan.
  • Paid time off and company holidays.
  • Support for your remote work setup.
  • Professional development opportunities for training, skill development, and career advancement.
