Innovu is a growing Pittsburgh, PA-based data analytics company providing comprehensive solutions that enable advisors and their employer clients to optimize their benefits strategy, human capital risk management, and health benefit design.  


Innovu's Payroll & Benefits Accountant is responsible for payroll, payroll tax processing, and employee benefit tracking and accounting. This role is embedded in Innovu's Finance team and requires exceptional attention to detail and significant experience in payroll processing and multi-state payroll tax compliance.

 

This is a fully remote, part-time position expected to require 15–25 hours per week, with regular interaction with Innovu's employees.


Responsibilities:

  • Lead the bi-weekly payroll processing submissions to Innovu’s payroll processor, Paylocity, in a consistently correct manner.
  • Maintain employee records, including new hire setups, terminations, salary adjustments, and tax elections.
  • Review and verify timesheets; resolve discrepancies with managers as needed.
  • Act as the primary point of contact for employee questions regarding paystubs, taxes, or timesheets.
  • Maintain strict confidentiality of sensitive payroll and employee information.
  • Review payroll tax filings prepared by our payroll processor, ensuring their correctness, and make state tax registrations for income tax withholdings and State Unemployment
  • Maintain state payroll tax accounts, including filings, payments, and agency correspondence, ensuring compliance across all applicable jurisdictions.
  • Complete other payroll related submissions and transmissions such as 401k contributions, HSA submissions, etc.
  • Ensure all payroll activities comply with local, state, and federal regulations.
  • Update Innovu’s archives to ensure that all payroll, payroll tax and benefit records are properly archived.
  • Familiarity with and ability to assume new employee onboarding-related activities and outgoing employee offboarding activities (adding or removing them from Innovu HR-related systems)
  • Manage the administration of benefit programs including, but not limited to, utilizing benefit carrier websites, reconciling payroll and benefit vendor invoices for accuracy. Partner with HR to resolve discrepancies.
  • Administer the Concur expense platform, including reviewing and processing employee expense reports, ensuring compliance with Innovu's expense reimbursement policy, and coordinating timely reimbursement through payroll.
  • Based on hiring forecasts, forecast the future payroll cash requirements accurately in support of Innovu’s cash forecasting.
  • Support the monthly accounting close and reporting cycle by updating the vacation accrual , payroll liabilities, and performing other financial reporting duties.
  • Lead year-end payroll activities (e.g., W-2 preparation)
  • Complete special accounting and HR projects as necessary

 

 Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree or equivalent work
  • Minimum of 5 years of experience in submitting and accounting for small company payroll and working with payroll taxes
  • Exceptional attention to detail and a willingness to do “whatever it takes” to support Innovu’s growth and the Finance Team’s priorities in a fast-moving environment
  • Outstanding Excel and spreadsheet skills, including pivot tables and vlookup / hlookup formulas
  • Strong sense of customer service to address Finance’s internal customers’ needs consistently and effectively
  • Demonstrated aptitude for learning new software applications
  • Self-motivated; comfortable working independently under general direction.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills
