Payroll Accountant - Indonesia

About the Role
As a Payroll Accountant, you will play a crucial role in ensuring the accuracy and integrity of financial records with a strong focus on payroll-related accounting. Your primary responsibility will be to oversee the general ledger functions, perform payroll account reconciliations, and assist in the month-end close process including partnering with our US Accounting team.  This role is a great fit for someone who enjoys structured, detail-driven work and wants to grow their scope over time. You'll work cross-functionally with HR, AP, and FP&A teams to resolve discrepancies, match disbursements, and keep our books audit-ready year-round.

This is a remote role supporting our US accounting operations, working US hours:
Monday–Friday aligned to US West Coast (9:00 AM – 5:00 PM PST).

What You’ll be Doing  
Payroll Recording 

• Preparing and posting payroll-related journal entries — regular payroll, bonuses, commissions, severance, and multi-subsidiary review 
• Working knowledge of payroll tax compliance (federal, state, local withholding and unemployment) — able to understand FICA and how state taxes work 
• Experience with benefits-related payroll accounting: 401(k), disability, life insurance, and health benefits journal entries and reconciliations 
• General payroll related daily bookkeeping, maintain employee record  

Accrual & GAAP Knowledge 

• Solid understanding of GAAP as it relates to payroll: accrued PTO, bonus accrual, payroll tax accrual, reversing vs. non-reversing entries 
• Comfortable reconciling payroll-related balance sheet accounts to the GL each close cycle 
• Experience with multi-subsidiary or multi-entity accrual allocations (e.g., commission/bonus accruals split "All Subs," LLC allocations) 

Journal Entries & Close Process 

• Able to independently prepare recurring journal entries from a checklist/template and route for review (prepare → review → post workflow) 
• Comfortable with contractor-related accruals — verifying new contractors, checking amounts, reclassing to correct periods 

AP/AR Exposure 

• Some experience reviewing open POs, contractor bill approvals, vendor reconciliations, and expense report review 

Audit Support 

• Able to prepare clean supporting documentation, variance analysis, and transaction schedules for internal/external auditors during year-end audits 

About You  

• Bachelor's degree in Accounting or Finance, or equivalent experience  
• 2-5 years of GL accounting experience, including hands-on payroll accounting (journal entries, accruals, reconciliations) 
• CPA preferred but not required.  
• Possess excellent interpersonal, verbal and written communication skills with the ability to effectively organize and present information and respond to questions.  
• Experience with payroll platforms and comfortable with payroll register review 
• Independent thinker and problem solver with ability to present solutions.  
• Working knowledge of FICA, FUTA/SUTA, and multi-state withholding rules 
• Experience reconciling benefits deduction accounts, understand pre-tax vs. post-tax deductions 
• Able to work independently in a remote, distributed team environment across multiple time zones 
• Familiarity with Netsuite is preferred. 
• Experience with Dayforce or Numeric is a plus. 
• Strong understanding of multi-country or international payroll exposure a plus 
• Advanced excel skills.
