About WattTime

WattTime is an environmental nonprofit tech startup. We conduct and coordinate original research into emissions datasets with unusual potential to rapidly drive emissions reductions at scale, then help implement those reductions. Our best known innovation is Automated Emissions Reduction (AER), an innovative technique currently used by over 1 billion devices daily (e.g. all Nest thermostats, U.S. iPhones, Toyota EVs, etc.) to automatically run them on surplus clean renewable energy. We also developed and share other innovations, like Emissionality, a way to make solar and wind power even better at reducing emissions.

WattTime is also the secretariat of Climate TRACE, a joint initiative of over 100 non-profits, tech companies, universities, and individual researchers pooling our expertise in AI, remote sensing, and emissions data to collectively build the world’s most comprehensive system to measure emissions–all open source and free for anyone to see.

About the Role

This full-time role will be a key player in a variety of responsibilities and projects across the Capacity team, with a primary focus on operations and people-related workflows. This will include general operations, HR, learning & development, finance, legal, governance, and administrative duties. This role is ideal for someone who enjoys working on a small team where every member is expected to contribute across multiple functions. It is designed for someone who wants to build a broad foundation across operations and grow with an organization.

Like all roles at WattTime, this job is a mix of both exciting new projects, and sometimes mundane but mission-critical tasks. The successful candidate will be game to roll up their sleeves for either with the same vigor, because they’re looking to drive positive impact in the world. You will sometimes be expected to lead workflows independently and own projects end-to-end, ensuring they are completed thoroughly at a very high level with minimal oversight. At other times, you will be asked to jump into a support role to help projects and tasks move forward. You’ll use excellent judgment to determine when to follow existing workflows and when to bring forward new ideas, approaches, and improvements, and you will always find a way to get to the bottom of an issue.

You’ll thrive in this role if you are flexible, patient, steady, resilient, and a curious, savvy, resourceful person who’s motivated to learn new things. You must be someone who is energized by a dynamic environment where things change fast and no two days are the same.
