Role Overview

The National Sales Director is the architect and driver of Safe-Guard's national sales strategy, leading a high-performing sales organization across all account types — dealer groups, independents, and strategic partners — to drive F&I product penetration, maximize administration fee revenue growth, and ensure long-term partner success. This is the most important role in our sales operations, serving as a coach, trainer, and executive-level strategic advisor to key clients.

The primary purpose is to own the program they direct, delivering accountability and consistently achieving or exceeding sales targets while developing a bench of future leaders for the company. Success in this role is measured by financial results, partner growth, and the continuous development of a strong, high-performing sales team.

Role Responsibilities

Strategy, Leadership & Performance

  • Lead and Coach the Sales Team: Provide strategic direction, coaching, and performance management for National Sales Managers and Regional Performance Managers, ensuring alignment with the national sales vision and fostering a culture of accountability and excellence.
  • Shape and Execute National Sales Strategy: Translate company objectives into clear, actionable plans for the field team. Leverage data, analytics, and market insights to guide decisions, optimize performance, and refine strategic direction.
  • Drive Revenue and Growth: Lead the strategy and execution to meet and exceed admin budget goals, driving F&I Product Penetration and product adds across all account types.
  • People Development: Actively identify, mentor, and develop high-potential sales professionals to build a strong talent bench, contributing to the organization's long-term success.
  • Supervisory Capacity: Hold the team accountable by setting clear expectations for performance metrics, ensuring effective and diligent work while providing constant guidance.

Partner Engagement & Alignment

  • Executive-Level Relationship Management: Build and maintain strategic partnerships with dealer principals, group executives, and OEM leadership. Serve as a trusted advisor, bringing data-driven insights and market intelligence to the relationship.
  • Cross-Functional Alignment: Proactively collaborate with internal teams (Product, Training, Underwriting, Claims, etc.) to ensure products are competitive, the value proposition is delivered consistently, and the field team is fully supported.
  • Trusted Partnerships: Strengthen relationships with all key stakeholders, clients, dealers, and internal partners through transparency, responsiveness, and collaboration.

Operational Excellence

  • Monitor and Analyze Activity: Generate, review, and analyze activity reports and performance metrics (e.g., Growth Accelerator data) to inform strategy and ensure operational efficiency.
  • Standardization and Innovation: Drive standardization across the national team while embracing innovative approaches to meet and exceed client and company goals.
  • Focus on Strategy: Focus primarily on directing, leading, and developing the team; utilize internal support teams to resolve operational issues to maximize time on high-impact initiatives.

Job Requirements

  • 10+ years of total experience in retail automotive and/or Third-Party Administrator (TPA), with a minimum of 5 years leading people in sales leadership roles.
  • Substantial in-dealership background with a focus in the Desk and F&I, or in-dealership experience as a people leader (GSM or GM).
  • F&I Product Expertise: Deep understanding of finance and insurance products, their value proposition, and how they impact dealer profitability.
  • Sales Leadership Experience: Proven success leading regional or national sales teams in the automotive or F&I space.
  • Executive-Level Communication and Influence: Proven ability to engage confidently and credibly with dealer principals and OEM executives.
  • Must-Have Qualities (Cannot Be Trained): Drive, Team-Oriented, and People Developer — the ability to mentor and develop others.
  • Proficiency in internal tools and systems: Salesforce, Power BI, and Microsoft suite of products.
  • Flexibility to travel anywhere from 50–70%.
  • Must be authorized to work in Canada.
  • Must be able to successfully pass a background check.

  • % of Objective: Hitting Sales Targets (Admin Budget and Revenue).
  • # of Leaders Developed: Bench strength and promotion readiness of the field team.
  • F&I Product Penetration Growth and Product Adds.
  • Dealer Feedback/Satisfaction: Dealers feeling properly supported.
