Reporting directly to and under the supervision of the CFO of Mortgage Forward , the Controller supports the organization's mortgage origination and servicing operations through accurate financial reporting, account reconciliation, regulatory compliance, and analysis. This role ensures the integrity of financial records related to mortgage loans, servicing portfolios, escrow accounts, warehouse lines of credit, investor remittances, and related activities.


The Controller’s position is responsible for managing the accounting functions for the organization, and ensuring proper and timely reporting of financial activities. The Controller is also responsible for financial reporting, budget management and internal controls, plus ensuring collaboration across departments in support of timely internal and external reporting. The job also ensures that the needs of Mortgage Forward are met in providing quality service in fulfillment of corporate goals. As a manager, the Controller is responsible for developing staff to enhance accuracy, timeliness, and usefulness of accounting information. Also responsible for maintaining a work environment conducive to teamwork and a high level of performance and productivity, which includes demonstrating and encouraging positive working relationships which promotes member service.


 

As a Controller, your primary responsibilities will be: 

  • Ensures that employees have the necessary tools, materials, and training to successfully perform in their positions. Assigns work and reviews, observes and/or audits work to assess department and employee performance. Coaches employees on a regular basis to ensure they clearly understand the performance standards for their position, and understand whether they are meeting these standards. Take all appropriate actions to ensure performance expectations are met or exceeded.
  • Ensures that employees remain in compliance with all applicable federal and state laws, rules and regulations. Ensure that employees adhere to all Mortgage Forward and department guidelines, policies and procedures.
  • Works with the CFO and across all departments to develop and maintain the corporate budget, monitors expenditures to ensure budget is used to maximize efficiency of the organization.
  • Actively participates in training/education activities to maintain and enhance professional and technical skills relative to industry standards and trends, Mortgage Forward departments and operations, Federal and State laws, rules and regulations, communication, technology, and leadership.
  • Implements internal controls and ensures staff have knowledge of and comply with internal controls.
  • Oversees the Accounting function and directs and controls the assets and liabilities in a manner consistent with GAAP and established accounting practices and methods.

 Updates policies and guidelines to ensure compliance with GAAP.

 Identifies opportunities for increased efficiencies; enacts cost savings programs across internal and external stakeholders.

  •  Ensures that all management and financial reports are prepared by the accounting staff in an accurate and timely manner.
  • Runs the monthly, quarterly and annual financial closing process in a manner consistent with organizational expectations and in support of all stakeholder timing requirements.
  • All other duties as assigned.


Requirements needed to be part of this team: 

  • A master’s or bachelor’s degree or achievement of formal certifications recognized in the industry as equivalent to a bachelor’s degree
  • Minimum of five years of similar or related experience
