Mechanical Design Drafter

Position Overview
We are seeking an experienced Drafter to perform Mechanical, Electrical, and Plumbing (MEP) drafting services for federal clients. This role will support design-build and design-bid-build projects using AutoCAD and REVIT software. The ideal candidate will provide highly competent drafter with technical excellence working with senior Professional Engineers (PEs).
Role on the Team
Reporting to the Project Manager, the Drafter will be responsible for developing/producing technical engineering drawings. Drafter will interact with other disciplines, working in BIM/CAD to execute designs, developing drawings, and incorporating specification edits. PEs will provide Drafter with guidance on code compliance, design parameters, and calculations.
Key Responsibilities
- Draft drawings for MEP requirements based on input from PEs, including room type(s) and code requirement(s), zones, etc.
- Prepare technical drawings, specifications, and submittals to ensure installation and operations conform to drafting/drawing codes, standards, and customer requirements.
- Operate independently in engineering/design software to perform drafting tasks, drawings, specifications, etc.
- Review and incorporate load calculations from PEs.
- Review and incorporate equipment from PEs.
- Review and incorporate specifications from PEs for purchases of materials or equipment.
- Confer with engineers, customers, or others to discuss project submittal requirements .
- Compile data and write reports regarding existing or potential mechanical engineering studies or projects.
- Support project production efforts to ensure projects are on time and within budget.
- Perform pre-bid site walks to identify requirements for price proposals as required.
- Perform post-award site investigations to gather information prior to designs or studies as required.
Qualifications
Education & Client Experience
- Bachelor’s degree in engineering, architecture, or a related field.
- 10+ years of general experience in MEP drafting/design.
- 5+ years of MEP engineering drafting/design experience on Federal Government A/E projects with federal agencies (USACE, NAVFAC, VA, USDA, DHA, USACE Huntsville MST, USACE Little Rock MST, USACE Mobile MST, VA, etc.).
- Technical Expertise
- Experience with industry-standard software (i.e. Revit, CAD, Bluebeam, etc.)
- Drafting/design experience using UFCs, WBDG, USACE Huntsville Design Guide, or others.
- Proficient with MEP engineering principles, practices, process, design/build, and the application to permitting and project work-related issues.
- Experience with MEP planning, design, and construction management; including active involvement in a variety of renovation, new design, and construction projects.
- Specific knowledge of relevant engineering and MEP construction laws, codes, regulations, compliance practices, and record-keeping requirements.
- Ability to review or make technical computations and calculations involving the application of Mechanical engineering principles, understanding plans and specifications, and making factual comparisons to the appropriate regulations.
